| olodrin03-31-08, 03:39 PM | Recently, my wizard took Jungle Razor, a spell that is pretty much a Lightning Bolt specifically against animals, plants, vermin and fey. The question: if an animal has the Fiendish Creature template, it becomes a Magical Creature with the Animal subtype. Is it effected by Jungle Razor or not? Thanks |

It's a mouthful isn't it? I found Junglerazor in the Spell Compendium pages 127-128. By the RAW (rules as written) the type changes from "Animal" to "Magical Beast" which would suggest that the spell is not usable in this case. Bummer because it looked so close.... However, because the subtype is "Augmented Animal", that allows a more flexible DM to have a bit of wiggle room. I tend to allow more things for my players than most people, even if it bends the rules. This is one of those situations that could become a houserule if you find that it doesn't unbalance the games and makes things more fun. The object here is that you don't want a spell that is too narrow in scope for the creatures that you encounter. You may want to further limit this that the spell only works on such creatures so long as they are on the Prime Material Plane. Othewise, the spell might be more powerful than it should be on Magical Beasts and extraplanar creatures. Just my 2 cents. Debby |
