| Bane_of_Morgoth07-06-06, 09:41 PM | Would a Marut go after all Vampires since they're all undead? And if someone is bitten by a Vampire they turn into Vampires so are Maruts after all the victims of Vampires? (For those who dont know Maruts track down and kill all who use unnatural means to stay alive) |
| Callahan07-06-06, 09:51 PM | Probably not actively. Vampire victims would be a very low priority but Maruts are known for taking their orders too seriously and litteraly. A higher priority would be a lich. |
| Millennium07-06-06, 09:54 PM | Maruts concern themselves primarily with those who willingly become undead. Few if any vampires willingly undergo the transformation: most who wish to become undead do it as liches. Because of that, I'd imagine that most maruts leave vampires alone: there are more powerful (and more willing) undead to worry about. If a person were to willingly become a vampire, then things would be different. However, I'd still think that most maruts would be more worried about liches, and so vampires would be a low priority. |

A Marut's main deterant to hunting down vampires is unless that is the mission, following the mist slowly float back to the coffin takes a fair bit of time. The sonic fist will make short work of any walls that get in the way though. [mist holes in the wall] then the marut with either improvise a stake and then tear off the head or just drag the vamp into sunlight. |

This post makes me happy.....The only way it is any better is if the Marut comunicates to the party that failed to kill it for a week ."You should find another line of work. You obviously are not made to do such tasks effeciently. Perhaps you could be fashion consultants for those whom need varied uncoordinated tastes or some other menial non'lifethreatening task."....even a ventriliquist could "Make" it look like the Marut said that to them would be great fun! |
| Rerecros10-27-06, 08:29 PM | Why would a marut hunt undead? They are after those who cheat death. To become undead you must first die. Maruts are after mortals who figure out how to expand their lifespan much farther than they should, and those who abuse the powers of resurrection. |
| Shadowmind6410-27-06, 08:38 PM | while vamps and liches have died, they are also extending their "lives" in the sense that they are the same person thaey were before, only undead. a lich is extendind his "life" by becoming undead. note the "un". |
| Rerecros10-27-06, 09:06 PM | Becoming undead means you become a different creature altogether, you must first die, sending your soul to where it belongs. the creature that was your shell is not you but an undying monster. I am under the impression that the inevitable's motivation is to keep the supply of souls to the outer planes flowing. Becomeing/ creating undead does not effect this process. if mortal races decided to use magic to end death, staying in perpetual youth, reviving cultures that naturally became extinct, the natural order of thing would get all screwy. The collapse of everything to the negative plane is inevitable. |
| LordHawkeye10-28-06, 09:17 AM | Most were turned against their will but if a Marut knew for a fact a vampire voluntarily accepted it, it could attract it's ire. Now, if you had a vampire cult enlisting people who wanted to live forever, that would DEFINETLY draw a Marut. |
| Platonix10-28-06, 01:23 PM | Becoming undead means you become a different creature altogether, you must first die, sending your soul to where it belongs. the creature that was your shell is not you but an undying monster. This is true of zombies and skeletons. Unfortunately, a lot of other undead do retain the original creature's soul, twisted by the negative energy now coursing through them. You can argue this point for weeks (which has been done before on this board), but the fact remains that the Monster Manual specifically calls out liches as likely targets for a marut. |
