I was just wondering if Outsiders are immortal or do they age like material plane creatures, if they are immortal what does that mean for races like Half-breeds and planetouched would there life span simply be increased by a percentage based on there heritage or would they inheritage immortality for there bloodline ?

My guess is it depends on bloodline things, half-breeds (and so forth) like half-celestials, planetouched etc. i would say do age, though maybe they geta longer life-span depending on how strong the outsider blood is (I.E. Half-celestials etc. get several hundred years, maybe while planetouched get a few extra years or decades)

Full-blooded creatures like demons are technically immortal, or failing that have life-spans so long they can be considered infinite.
None of this is oficial, merely my opinion, but i'm guessing there something on the matter in the planewalkers handbook/manual of the planes or whatever the 3.5 version is called now, if not races of destiny, where if my memory is correct planetouched can be found in also.

This would require the aid of Sheska the Marauder, she is the ultimate authority on outsiders, and she has the inside scoop on outsider affairs (pun intended).

My guess would be that yes, outsiders are immortal. If I recall correctly, outsiders do not have a dual nature; their soul and body is one. With this in mind, I think their bodies would not deteriorate and age as normal beings of flesh and blood would. But that's my guess.

Well, 2nd ed ones perhaps.

Anyways, yes, I'm pretty certain they are immortal. Never heard of a demon or angel dying of old age before.

Damn my defiant nature.

You shouldn't lean on one person for all your needs. Shemeska has knowledge of 2 ed. outsiders and kicks butt... at 2 ed. knowledge, which is still applicable... to an extent. Yes, outsiders are immortal (immortality isn't all that powerful, really. Not worth LA or anything). Still, Shemeska is really knowledgeable, likeable, and overall fun to listen to. Come on, Shemmy, shower us with your knowledge of infernal affairs (pun intended :))!

Lesser outsiders are definetly "mortal" in the sense that they die of Old age. Things like Aasimar, Tieflings and the other non-powerful races in the Planar Handbook all have listed maximum ages. The powerful races seem to be immortal, things like Kytons and Guardinals.

Yes, outsiders with the "native" subtype are mortal. Still, immortality isn't all that powerful. Definitely not worth any LA.

Outsider= Immortal
Outsider (native) = mortal, and die of old age, (if not before ;) )

EDIT: a few examples are givin below that do not fit this rule of thumb.
There really should be an "Insider" type. :D

Well all...seeing that there is much more information on planar species in 2nd ed than now....its safe to say that shemsky is one of the most knowledgable period...2nd ed and all of the above.

Oh, and I never actually played 2e. Just should mentioned that. I just generally find the 2e planar material to be better written and more detailed compared to the 3e material covering the same topics. But that's besides the point.

Alright, true outsiders (aka those that represent one of the cardinal alignments, those that are the physical representation of some ideal or abstract concept, the true planeborn) they are immortal in the sense of they don't age in the same sense of mortals and they won't die of old age, etc.

Native outsiders such as tieflings, aasimar, high level monks, and similar things (aka that still have body/soul duality) are mortal, but may (depending on the source) have an extended lifespan compared to that of their base mortal race. Similarly, half celestials, half fiends, and the like are also still mortal, but due to the increased fraction of outsider blood, they'll have a longer lifespan beyond that of tieflings, aasimar, etc.

Some 'outsiders' will actually age, and are technically mortal, but these are some of the lesser outsider races that aren't representative of any of the cardinal alignments, etc. However, let me preface this by saying that sources may vary on this, and some it's speculated but not known if they do in fact have an upper age limit which is just obscenely high, or if they're actually truly immortal. Bladelings are mortal (I don't recall if 3.x has them as outsiders or not, but they're native to Acheron), Bariaurs are mortal if very long lived, Lillendi don't age but may ultimately tire of life and are capable of setting the moment of their death known as the Silent Hour, Kytons may or may not be immortal, Rakshasas are immortal (and 3.5 making them native outsiders was pure drivel, they don't have body/soul duality, and they're properly native to Acheron. Someone didn't do their homework).

For reasons I cannot understand, 3.x lists the various Genie-kin as outsiders, which is bizarre. In any event the Genie-kin are likely long lived, but ultimately with a limited lifespan, but I'd really have to dig through 'Secrets of the Lamp' to be certain of that answer.

Genies are flagged as Outsiders in 3.X because they don't feature body/soul duality, but they're not pure manifestations of the elmental planes on which they live.
