| Old_One11-30-04, 11:44 AM | In the upcoming show down btwean the party and my BBEG arow demons are going to be equiped with a set of bows of haste. After I didi the math it turns out they could each do 10 atacks per round if they used rapid shot on boath bows. The atack bounus is +10/+10/+10/+10/+10/+10/+10/+10/+5/+5  Is this legal? I know it is posible for my BBEG to purchese these bows, all 4 of them, and i reckon if he ofers them up as payment to the arow demons they would comply with his planar binding. Also would this be too much fo a 9th lvl party of 6 chracters? |
| Ogre4Hire11-30-04, 12:41 PM | While it's technically legal, you should raise the CR of any Arrow Demon thus equipped by at least 2. I don't remember what the CR of an Arrow Demon is, but with that many attacks, it's likely that you'll see a TPK , especially if the Arrow Demon alternates between Full Attacks and Dimension Doors. Remember, just because you can do it, doesn't mean that you should. I knew a DM that decided that every monster he threw at the PCs should be a tactical genius. This only served to kill the fun of playing in his campaigns, because encounters would always be so heavily skewed in favor of the monsters that it took a Duex Es Machina to survive. |
| Old_One11-30-04, 01:26 PM | I'm not conserned with a TPK since the arow demons will turn against the BBEG in the crucial moment, and the AC of the party is quite high and if the casters dont go invs they deserve to die. Actuely I think about addding a mezzoloth wich will come from the rear. This is the final face-off with the BBEG after all :evillaugh |
| Nuntius12811-30-04, 03:42 PM | dang. 10 attacks? crud. hahaha. give the arrows the "Exit Wound" enhancement too, while youre at it :D Then you fire 1 arrow in each direction, and there's 8 of your attacks that can continue passing through any living organism(with discernable anatomy) they hit(in each direction, again, mind you), and there will still be 2 attacks to use. arrow demon, indeed. |
| primemover00311-30-04, 03:46 PM | Just remember on a weapon of SPEED (not Haste as there is no such weapon) you can only gain ONE extra attack, not one from each. |
| Old_One12-01-04, 05:32 AM | No can do for the enchanted arows Nuntius128. My BBEG is on a budget and he just doesnt have the recourses, These arow demons are not the only thing he needs to eguip. There are aloso boneclaws to create, then he has to get two of them spellstiched, the ogre asains to pay for, not to mention his salamander army to support. After all of thet his coffers are getting quite empty. If his plans fail he will have to find some poor adventureres to hire for some quick looting, and gues who he is going to trick into doing that :smirk: Thats the cool thing about the arow demon, they have two pair of hands and some special ability wich lets them fire boath at once. Thats two extra atacks for each demon. And since thay hace a nice base atack bonus and a high dex bonus and wepon focus and +1 bows it wil be a literal rain of arows on the battel field :plotting: |
| Ogre4Hire12-01-04, 01:47 PM | If I were a PC in your campaign world, I'd get a Buckler of Arrow Reflection and take my armor off. |
| whitelightsaber12-01-04, 06:29 PM | I know im not feeling to smart to have to ask this but what is BBEG? |
| gradea12-01-04, 07:23 PM | big bad evil guy or something, basicly a boss speed gives you one extra attack on a full attack, but since the creature is essentialy dual wielding two weapons, thats two attacks. Rapid shot how ever is STILL only 1 extra attack i believe, you said it was on both. |
| primemover00312-01-04, 08:34 PM | No it is not TWO extra attacks... No matter what the arrow demon's special ability it can NOT gain anymore that ONE extra attack from Bows of speed. An Ettin has double the normal amount of melee attacks. Even if it has two Axes of Speed it can still ONLY gain ONE extra attack during it's Full attack action. They do not stack. |
| cwslyclgh12-01-04, 09:11 PM | source? |
| Purkake12-02-04, 03:36 AM | There has been a long thread about that. Basically it is like this Speed: When making a full attack action, the wielder of a speed weapon may make one extra attack with it. The attack uses the wielder’s full base attack bonus, plus any modifiers appropriate to the situation. (This benefit is not cumulative with similar effects, such as a haste spell.) The way I read it you get one attack PER WEAPON. |
| primemover00312-02-04, 03:49 PM | Well the most relevant source is the 3.0 FAQ. Since the 3.5 FAQ does not cover this issue the old FAQ is still valid. Yes, the Haste spell has been fundamentally changed, BUT in regards to the extra attack it grants it's still mechanically similar. pg 28 of the 3.0 FAQ: You can use two weapons of speed at a time all right, but you still only get one extra attack, from one weapon or the other, not both. If you are under the effects of a haste spell, you can use the extra attack action from one weapon of speed, or the extra partial action from the haste spell, but not both. Whether you are under the effects of a Haste spell or have a Speed weapon(s) you can only gain one extra attack/ round from a magical speed source (haste or speed). They're all the same effect from the same source (as Haste is the base spell for the Speed Enhancement). Rapid shot is not similar to Speed/Haste, as it imposes a penalty to all attack in return for an extra shot. The same goes for TWF and melee. Different mechanics all together. |
