| Red_Rapida01-07-04, 07:50 AM | I need more information on the dragon Ashardalon. Like where he is from, what did he do, and why is he so special? In the dracomonicon it says something about binding a balor to his heart or some such. Anyway any information would be appreciated. |

| JayceMD01-08-04, 02:58 PM | Ashardalon was introduced in a series of eight modules released by WOTC. 1: The Sunless Citadel: While searching for a party of lost adventurers, the PCs come upon The Sunless Citadel, an ancient temple dedicated to a dragon named Ashardalon. Ashardalon was a great wyrm red dragon who aspired to godhood. At the bottom of the citadel there grows a tree that sprouted from a stake used to slay a vampire. The evil Gulthias Tree has many strange and unusual powers. 4: The Standing Stones: The PCs find themselves in Ossington, a small village located in the center of a circle of standing stones. The stones have carvings on them written in Druidic. The carvings are a spell carved by Dydd, an ancient Druidess who slew the wyrm Ashardalon by cursing his heart, causing it to fail. The spell on the stones was used to repopulate the region by transforming woodland creatures into humans and halflings. 5: Nightfang Spire: Gulthias is the vampiric high priest of the cult of Ashardalon that was recently released from his staked prison by the destruction of the tree that bound him. He returns to the main temple of the cult of Ashardalon, which is located in a great canyon. At the center of the temple is the undead heart of Ashardalon, which still beats with unholy necromantic power. 7: The Lord of the Iron Fortress: While investigating the slaying of great forgemasters and the subsequent disappearance of their souls, the PCs come upon the Iron Fortress, the abode of a half-dragon duergar named Imperagon who claims to be the child of Ashardalon. 8: The Bastion of Broken Souls: Soulless children are being born and the PCs must figure out why. At the same time, a half-demon/half-devil starts attacking the party, concentrating all of its attacks on one member in particular. The PCs learn that Ashardalon is still alive, having survived by binding a demon to himself to serve as his heart. This was only a stop-gap measure and did not work for long so Ashardalon had to go to the Bastion of Unborn Souls, a grove on the Positive Energy Plance where pre-incarnate souls are formed. He survives to this day by feeding on the unborn souls; every one that he eats causes another soulless infant to be born on the material plane. The half-demon/half-devil is trying to capture the PC because (s)he is a direct decendant of the druid Dydd and her/his blood holds the power to slay the wyrm for all time. |
