| Inigo Carmine11-05-05, 12:40 AM | Here (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/monstersA.html#assassin-vine) is the description of the assasin vine. It says it has 10 ft reach, and then in parenthesis it says "20 ft with vine". Could someone explain that to me? |
| Rake11-05-05, 12:48 AM | Space/Reach is a static number corresponding to creature size and shape (tall or long). Specific attacks (like the vine's slam) are noted as exceptions. Yes, it seems silly, but technically there's nothing that says an assassin vine can't make an unarmed strike. This attack would use the normally listed reach. (Flesh golems don't have an unarmed strike listed, but couldn't they kick somebody?) It's a technicality, but procedure is procedure. |
| Inigo Carmine11-05-05, 10:19 AM | That idea had come to be, but it seemed too silly. So basically, the assasin vine is like a normal large (tall) creature in dimension (with 10 ft natural reach), and it's vine attack is sort of like a spiked chain, in that it doubles its natural reach and can attack anything closer than that as well. Thank ya. :) |

| obrysii11-05-05, 11:43 AM | Now the real paradox is: what stops the vine form making it's unarmed srikes with its vine? :D Only that it lacks unarmed strikes. In the sense that it would provoke an AoO if it were to use unarmed strikes untrained, as with anyone. |
| Rake11-06-05, 01:18 AM | Correct, the vine is 'nonproficient' in the unarmed strike, but technically, and by that I mean 'by the rules as written', nothing stops it from making one. |
