I have a few questions regarding the Assassin Vine.

Question(s) #1: When it's grappling a character does it wrap its entire length around it? Or does it just use a section of itself?

Question #2: When it's grappling a character does it occupy the same space or adjacent space?

Question #3: In order to successfully grapple it must first succeed at a slam touch attack and then at a grapple check. The slam attack causes 1d6+7 damage and with the grapple it uses constriction, causing 1d6+7 damage. So, in the first round it attacks, grapples and constricts. So, does it do 1d6+7 (slam attack) + 1d6+7 (constrict) damage in that round?

Question(s) #4: Below are a couple of my attempts at representing an Assassin Vine grappling a character. Is either of them remotely correct? If not, could someone post a more accurate battle grid?

Thanks a million!

Example A: Wrap with a section.

1) I believe the vine wraps the whole of itself (as much as it can) around the hapless grapplee. Since it can only grapple one foe at a time and is considered grappled itself, it doesn't seem to have any loose bits.

2) When the vine makes a successful grapple check it pulls the character into its space. This is part of the grapple action, is not considered movement, and has no impact on normal movement.

3) Constriction damage begins the first round the vine maintains its grapple, not the first round it initiates the grapple. So the sequence is (rd 1): Slam (1d6+7 damage) and grapple; (rd 2) Constrict (1d6+7 automatically).

4) To represent grappling, place the character on the vine's space. They occupy the same 5' square. If the character breaks free, he steps to any unoccupied space adjacent to the vine.

Thanks, Talisman. You've cleared up my confusion.

its all correct, save for one thing. the vine doesn't neccisarily pull the PC into it's square. if the Vine wants to pull the PC, it requires an opposed strength check. otherwise it can just occupy the PC's square.
