| thinkhard05-06-07, 05:00 PM | When a monster's base-attack is high enough to get extra attacks (+6 or higher) how does this affect his attack routines? I ask this because a player plans on playing as an awakened bear in one of my campaigns (i really enjoy the character but i want to make sure that advancement of the character would relate to the bear's natural abilities so that way he stays "bear-ish" instead of becoming more human in his combat style). |
| Watchdog_of_Hades05-06-07, 05:35 PM | From all of the creatures I've seen, you get your natural attacks (in this case, two claws and a bite) and your BAB doesn't change that one bit. If you were to somehow wield a sword, you'd get an extra attack for every 5 points above 1, but with natural attacks, you can have +41/+36/+31... and still only have two claws and a bite (albeit at a high attack bonus for all three of them). |
| thinkhard05-06-07, 05:37 PM | Exactly the answer I didn't want. Guess I have to homebrew some rules unless someone sheds different light on the situation. A bear wielding a sword loses all the charm of a sentient bear character. Then it's just a dumb anime character. |

If you need your creatures to use iterative BAB, may I direct you to the rapidstrike and improved rapidstrike feats (Draconomicon). They allow you to simulate iterative BAB with a natural attack (as long as you have two of the attack in question; such as two claws or two wings). |

You may not get iterative attacks, but you can effectively wield 3 weapons at once, a feat that usually only things like the marilith can pull off. |
