| Stalwart10-22-05, 01:03 PM | I could use some help here finding a decent fey adversary for a 8-9 level party. Looking for existing or new fey. Here's the scenario: The party is in a haunted wood. After some heroic deeds, they defeated a covey of hags and quieted an extremely haunted mansion that had been cursing the whole region. Now, with a harsh winter about to turn into spring, the Seelie Court plans to celebrate and turn the entire wood into a much more beautiful, good place. The Unseelie court is going to resist this, of course. The Seelie court has kidnapped a young girl to use as its Spring Queen. The Unseelie Court then kidnapped the girl from them to prevent the spring celebration. The party now needs to rescue her from the biggest, baddest fairy in the wood... CR appropriate. Any suggestions? I don't have MM2, or FF, and have gone through MM, MM3, Stormwrack and Frostburn, but have not come upon any ideal candidates. Does anyone have some housemade fey nasties that he or she wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks in advance. |
| The Vorpal Tribble10-22-05, 01:15 PM | Shoot, I have a couple of my own, and a few from other books of mine, but all are chaotic good oddly enough. The Silthilar from Lords of Madness could easily be made non-good in my opinion, and are actually aberration fey, sort of weird. Basically once were fey that now exist unnaturally as a sort of intelligent spirit swarm. They are a CR 7... tack on the fiendish template or something of that sort and it'd raise it a level or two and I'd say it'd make them the perfect critter for the occassion. |
| Hyrael the Dreamer10-22-05, 01:20 PM | I recall that on the officail site there was an article about an new monster, a sort of Evil false nymph that truns water foul and drains charisma from the harem of suitors she attracts. try to find it with a site search |
| Stalwart10-22-05, 01:46 PM | Vorpal T: Yeah, while looking around these boards for fey I saw and really liked your John Barleycorn. I know the song you probably based him on. I was humming it while reading. Thanks for the LoM idea; I haven't looked there yet, even though I own the book. Didn't really think about it. Thanks! Stalwart |

| BelRex10-22-05, 03:28 PM | How about an evil pixie with 4 levels in Warlock? You would have Otto's Dance, and deal 2d6 points of damage per blast. Use Eldritch Spear(250ft range) stay invis and blast them from the air. You have 3 invocations. If you get Summon Swarm as your second invoctaion you can summon different swarms. Miasmic Cloud might be good for close combat. Sickening blast would work..at that level -2 to all that would be worth it. Frightning blast would also be good, if you have a paladin in the group it would be a good time for his to show off his Immunity to fear affects..etc At 3rd level in warlock, your DR would increases to 11/cold iron. Use your entangle when they first attack..then blast away. If any get lose and start firing at you..distract them with a humanoid shaped dancing lights. Lesser confusion would also be fun if you have most of the group in a tight space. Usually, unless they have a reason to, your players won't be running around with see invis. Set up a perm image of some very imposing feyish queen. If they want to fight..let them attack that first. You can be anywhere within 400+ ft to control it. You also have polymorph as an option..so if you actually have to fight for a round or two (which would be bad seeing as how you will only have 4 or 5 HD) you could take the form of something with high physical scores with a max of 8HD. Warlocks also have UMD as a class skill, and you gain Deceive Item at 4th level. Buy a useful wand(maybe mage armor or a cure wand) and a scroll of false life. Your SR will make it hard for any spellcasters to hit you that often. Use a couple of unseelie thorn guards. There is also the boggart, HERE (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/al/20041006a) . He is already chaotic evil, and has a high CHA. Hope some of that helps. |
| cwslyclgh10-22-05, 04:29 PM | how about making the kidnappers a couple of Fuarren (below), with a leader who is a Fuarren with rogue or assassin levels (to qualify for assassin take 4 ranks off of perform and put it in disguise instead). Fuarren Medium Fey Hit Dice: 6d6+12 (33 hp) Initiative: +6 Speed: 40ft. Armor Class: 18 (+2 dex, +6 natural) Touch 12 Flatfooted 16 Base Attack/Grapple: +3/+5 Attack: Gore +6 melee (1d6+2) or shortbow +5 ranged (1d6) Full Attack: Gore +6 melee (1d6+2), 2 claws +1 melee (1d4+1) or shortbow +5 ranged (1d6) Space/Reach: 5ft./5ft. Special Attacks: Powerful Charge, Sneak Attack (+1d6), Special Arrows, Spell-like abilities Special Qualities: Damage reduction 10/cold iron, Fey Traits, Lowlight vision Saves: Fort +4, Ref +7, Will +5 Abilities: Str 15, Dex 14, Con 15, Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 15 Skills: Balance +11, Bluff +11, Hide +11, Listen +9, Move Silently +11, Perform (act) +11, Spot +9 Feats: Alertness, Improved Initiative, Weapon Focus (gore) Environment: Temperate woodlands Organization: Solitiary, pair, or revel (3-8) Challenge Rating: 5 Treasure: standard Alignment: Always chaotic evil Advancement:7-12 HD (medium) Level Adjustment: -- Fuarren are thought to have once been Satyrs, but over the ages they have been corrupted by an evil influence that has left them twisted and evil. In appearance a Fuarren looks much like its more common relative, although its hair is much more wild and shaggy, and stretches down their back like a mane. Instead of short straight goat horns a Fuarren has the massive curling horns of a ram. Fuarren are feared and hated by other fey, and they return the favor in kind, they also despise nearly all non-fey, and take wicked delight in leading travelers into pits, quicksand or other dangers. COMBAT Fuarren act really tough, and often charge into combat with seemly reckless abandoned, this is mostly a charade however, as the Fuarren are truly cowards in their sick twisted hearts. If possible they try to soften up foes with their special arrows before engaging in melee, and use their spell-like abilities to confuse and hinder their foes, as well as set up sneak attacks. A Fuarren that is getting hammered wastes no time in fleeing into the wilderness, leaving any allies to their fate. Powerful Charge (Ex): A fuarren typically begins melee combat by charging at an opponent, lowering its head to bring its mighty horns into play. In addition to the normal benefits and hazards of a charge, this allows the beast to make a single gore attack with a +6 attack bonus that deals 2d6+4 points of damage. Special Arrows (Su): Fuarren often carry special arrows in addition to their more normal kind, these arrows are blunted and inflict only a single point of damage on a successful hit, however the target must then make a will save (DC 16) or be confused (as the spell) for 1d4 rounds. This is a mind affecting compulsion effect. Spell-Like Abilities (Sp): At will—dancing lights, darkness, disguise self, invisibility, see invisibility, and ventriloquism; 1/day—deep slumber (DC16), and crushing despair (DC 16). Caster level 5th. The save DC is Charisma-based |
