| Aragorn Raziel Wilcrez07-14-06, 04:14 PM | Say, I'm working some ideas, and came across a problem. I'm preparing a half-dragon vampire for a tournament thing, and the vampiric template requires the base creature to be a humanoid or monstrous humanoid. Does it still qualify since the half-dragon has the augmented humanoid subtype? The characters have to be RAW. I'm using him in my campaign as an enemy encounter anyway, just because. |
| Slagger the Chuul07-14-06, 11:29 PM | Unfortunately for you, a "subtype" is not the same as a "type". This makes the half-dragon vampire technically impossible under the normal rules (presumably, being born with draconic blood makes you immune to vampirism). The augmented subtype simply indicates what type the creature gets its features from (Hit Dice, BAB, saves, and skill points). For example, a half-dragon humanoid has the traits (darkvision, immunity to paralysis, and so on) of the dragon type, but the features of the humanoid type (except for the Hit Dice size, which is a special case for a half-dragon). When you're DMing, of course, you're free to make whatever exceptions you like. |

| runestar07-15-06, 08:42 AM | Wasn't there a vampiric red dragon in the Draconomicon, if I recall correctly. Yah, but only because there was a custom vampiric dragon template built specially for such an occasion. ;) That might be what you want - and it is more sane at just LA+5. I had always wanted to try a dragonwrought kobold dracolich or vampiric dragon... :P Just for the humour value... Wotc is very interesting - while the rules may claim that a non-humanoid cannot become a vampire, there is nothing stopping them from creating another template which creates a vampire out of a non-humanoid. :D |
