Here's an idea I got from my girlfriend's dream of being chased around by a bunch of these critters and watching people getting mauled by them. They were basically really strong, smart, and fast demonic birds that would massacre people and leave a very gruesome scene. Anyway PEACH please, as I've stated before I have no idea how to calculate the majority of it so it needs alot of work. Thanks in advance.

Heres a pic of the Avoteza (http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k203/Sorcen_Anenooata/?action=view&current=Avoteza.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch5).

The creature perched atop a dead branch on a large dead tree appears as a large bloated black vulture, as if bloated from too much carrion, the feathers of the bird are of the deepest black, and its large curved beak is perfectly designed for ripping flesh and is permanently stained with blood and gore. The creatures four blood red eyes focus on you and it leaps from its perch to maul you with its seemingly overlarge razor sharp talons. As you turn to run, the demon bird is already upon you raking and tearing and the talons tear through your armor with ease and into your soft flesh underneath. The creature leaves you alive and slowly feeds on your flesh and it seems that your agonizing screams make the evil beast enjoy its meal that much more.
These evil creatures are called Avoteza and are native to Pandemonium, where they roost on dead trees and on ledges. There have been instances where these terrible birds were summoned to the material plane and destroyed entire villages leaving no lasting survivors, only the few that have their flesh ripped off and dont last long after the departure of the Avoteza. Avoteza are rumored to be fast enough to catch a man on horseback, strong enough to carry off a horse, and their claws are said to be sharp enough to tear right through the best armor, and the birds are supposedly able to be tossed around and slammed and able to spring back to the attack, they are said to be extremely hard to make any marks on and their feathers are said to be like armor. They are extremely intelligent and are able to learn tricks and avoid them the next time around, this combined with their strength, speed, and extraordinary ability to take damage make the avoteza a formidible opponent.
Combat
These creatures are usually seen in flocks and attack en masse. It uses its massive claws and ripping beak to rend teh flesh of its foes. This creature is amazingly resistant to most forms of attack compared to most birds and can be tossed around and slammed and get right back up to join the fight. Although they kill as many foes as they can, they are not known to eat much of their kills other than the innards, usually they just strip the skins and limbs off of their victims and scatter the pieces and make the scene as gruesome as possible.
Armored Feathers (Ex): The feathers covering an avoteza are hardened and grant the avoteza spell resistance 15 and damage reduction 15.
Keen Senses (Ex): An avoteza can see four times as well as a human in low-light conditions and twice as well in normal light.
Outsider Traits: The avoteza has darkvision with a range of 60 feet and cannot be raised or resurrected.
Regeneration (Ex): An avoteza regenerates lost hit points at a rate of 10 per round. Holy and blessed weapons deal normal damage to an avoteza. If an avoteza loses a limb or body part, the lost portion regrows in 3d6 minutes. The creature can reattach the severed member instantly by holding it to the stump.
Rend(Ex): An avoteza that hits an opponent with both its claw attacks latches onto the opponent's body and tears the flesh. This automatically deals an additional 2d6 +12 points of damage.
Resistances(Ex): Avoteza have resistance 20 to cold, fire, electricity, acid, and sonic damage.
Snatch(Ex): An avoteza that hits a creature of at least small size, but no larger than large, with a claw attack attempts to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If the avoteza achieves a hold, it can fly off with its prey and automatically make a bite attack each roundin lieu of a claw attack. It can drop a snatched creature as a free action or use a standard action to fling it aside. A flung creature travels 90 feet and takes 9d6 points of damage. If the avoteza flings it while flying, the creature suffers from this amount of damage or falling damage, whichever is greater.

Interesting... they're like the Abyss' equivalent of those birds beginning with A that kill things from the monster manual. :lightbulb: I remember now! Achieriai or some such.

Anyway, very nice, very nice indeed!

Kinda reminds me of Vrocks.
But the whole warrier-sorcerer thing might not be for you.

Actually I based them off of teh arrowhawk and the roc, abilitywise, I realized they were similar to the vrocks and acheiriai but they lack the magic abilities of the vrock and are more powerful phsyically than the acheiriai. Thanks for the input, keep it coming.

Hit Dice: 10d8+70 (46 hp)? This creature has a 20 Constitution (+5 modifier), and 10 HD. Therefore, his bonus hp would be +50. So, we get:
Hit Dice: 10d8+50 (95 hp)

Initiative: ?Initiative is defined by your Dex modifier and any feats you may have taken. Improved Initiative, being the most common, which gives you a +4 to your Initiative roll.

So, since this creature has a 21 Dex (+5 modifier):
Initiative: +5

Speed: 30ft, Fly 80ft (perfect)Perfect maneuverability is usually reserved for un-natural, that is to say Supernatural, flight. Something with wings, probably shouldn't have Perfect. I would say Average is a good bet.

Also, if this is meant to be a big man-sized bird, you'll probably need to reduce it's land speed.

Base Attack/Grapple:You forgot to add in the Base Attack/Grapple section. It goes in right after Armor Class. For this creature it would look like:
Base Attack/Grapple: +10/+16

Attack: Bite +10 melee (1d8+10), 2 Claws +12 (1d6 +12)
Full Attack: 1 bite +10 melee (1d8+10), 2 claws +12 melee (1d6 +12), When you figure the attack bonus for a creature here is the basic formula.
(Base Attack + Strength Modifier + Size Bonus/Penalty + Bonus from Feats).
Secondary attacks take a -5 penalty, and add only half Strength to the damage. If you take the Multiattack feat, the penalty is -2. So, with a 10 BAB and a +6 Strength:
Attack: Bite +16 melee (1d8+6)
Full Attack: Bite +16 melee (1d8+6) and 2 claws +11 melee (1d6+3)

Special Attacks: Rend 2d6 +12, Snatch,Snatch is a feat, and to qualify the creature must be at least Huge sized. So, no can do here.
Your Rend damage should be 2d6+9.

Special Qualities: Acid, Cold, Fire, Electricity, and Sonic Resistance 20, Keen Senses, Regeneration 10, SR 10, Outsider Traits,Hmmm, your energy resistances and your spell resistance tell conflicting stories about this creature. I would strongly suggest lowering the energy resistance to either 5 or 10, and I wouldn't put more than 3 or 4 at the most types of energy resistances on there.

As for the spell resistance, apply that when you figure out what CR you are aiming for. An excellent guideline is to place your spell resistance 11 or 12 points higher than your CR. For example, an average CR 5 creature's SR should be around 17 or so.

Regen 10 seems a bit much. Looking at this creature damage potential, it's going to be a fairly low CR. If I where you, I would just settle on Damage Reduction or fast healing instead of Regen. Creatures with alignment subtypes quite often have damage reduction versus the opposite alignment. For this creature, I would suggest maybe Damage Reduction 5/good, or at the most 10/good.

Saves: Fort +?, Ref +?, Will +?As an Outsider the creature gets all good saves. The formula for a good save is 1/2HD + 2. So his base saves would be a +7, then we add in the relevant modifiers and end up with:
Saves: Fort +12, Ref +12, Will +11

Abilities: Str 22, Dex 21, Con 20, Int 20, Wis 18, Cha 15A 20 Intelligence is waaay too much for this monster. It can be perfectly cunning in battle with a 4-7 Intelligence. A 20 means this creature is a certifiable genius, an astro physicist, or a rocket scientist. Get my meaning? The rest seem a bit high as well, but this is the only blaring offense I see.

Skills: ?For skills I would suggest: Listen, Spot, and Search. Perhaps Hide, Move Silently, and Survival as well. Depending on what you settle on for its Int.

Feats: ?You've got 4 feats to give out. I might suggest things like; Improved Initiative, Weapon Focus, Alertness, Flyby Attack

Challenge Rating: ?Don't know right now, depends on the decisions and changes you make based on these suggestions.

Treasure: ?Probably none.

Thoughts:
This is a cool idea. Let's finish it out. After you look through this and make some decisions we can take it further and flesh it out more.

Thanks for the help, and for explaining some of the stuff to me, that helped alot. I took another look at the armored feathers things and took it out after realizin how weird it was, maybe it can harden its feathers for a certain time limit to grant that effect. Anyway I lowered the INT to 7, you mentioned the other ability scores were too high so should i lower them too, by how much do i lower them and then i have to find what they change to the other stuff that depends on the modifiers. The land speed is so high because she said they could chase down people on foot despite how fat they were, and on that note what about good manueverability because she said they could move pretty good in the air despite their size, in a way they are unnaturally fastand manueverable. Anyway heres what I came up with:

Avoteza
Medium Outsider (air, evil)
Hit Dice: 10d8+50 (95 hp)
Initiative: +5
Speed: 30ft, Fly 80ft (average)
Armor Class: 28 ( +3 Dex, +15 natural)
Base Attack/Grapple: +10/+16
Attack: Bite +16 melee (1d8+6)
Full Attack: Bite +16 melee (1d8+6) and 2 claws +11 melee (1d6+3)
Space/Reach: 5ft by 5ft/5ft
Special Attacks: Rend 2d6 +9
Special Qualities: Acid, Cold, Fire Resistance 5, Keen Senses, DR 5/good, SR ?, Outsider Traits, Fast Healing?
Saves: Fort +12, Ref +12, Will +11
Abilities: Str 22, Dex 21, Con 20, Int 7, Wis 18, Cha 15
Skills: Listen, Spot, Search, not sure how to work these out
Feats: Improved Initiative, Weapon Focus, Alertness, Flyby Attack not sure how to work these out either
Environment: Any land and underground
Organization: solitary or flock (9-13)
Challenge Rating: ?
Treasure: None
Alignment: chaotic evil

you mentioned the other ability scores were too high so should i lower them too,They seemed a bit high, but not unbalancingly so, don't worry about em'.

The land speed is so high because she said they could chase down people on foot despite how fat they wereGotcha.

and on that note what about good manueverability because she said they could move pretty good in the air despite their sizeIt's your creature, if you feel it needs Good, then give it Good. I was just going on assumptions.

Fast Healing?Hmm, somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-5?

Skills: Listen, Spot, Search, not sure how to work these outOK, Outsiders receive 8+Int Modifier (-2 in this case) skill points per HD, and x4 at their first HD. So, each HD the creatures gains 6 skill points, and 24 on is first HD. To figure out the total we take 24 (First HD) + (9*6(All other HD)) = 78 total skill points.

The max points you can put in any monster's skills is equal to its HD+3 or 13 in this case. So, pick out 6 skills and put 13 skill points into each of them. For a low int outsider, I would go with:
Listen, Spot, Search, Hide, Move Silent, Survival

Feats: Improved Initiative, Weapon Focus, Alertness, Flyby Attack not sure how to work these out eitherImproved Initiative gives a +4 to his Inititiative. Weapon Focus, you choose on of the creature's natural attacks, ie his bite or claw attack, and he gains a +1 bonus to all attack rolls with it. Alertness gives a +2 to Listen and Spot checks. Flyby attack allows him to attack in the middle of his flying movement. Sort of like Spring Attack or Shot on the Run.

Advice:
Please, put a space or two in between your paragraphs and special abilities. It's very hard to read the description when all the paragraphs run together like that. Same with this special abilities, seperate a line or so. They easier your stat block is on the eye, the more likely people are to actually read it.
