| Acarg5103-03-06, 10:36 AM | I have a question -- with regards to the spell Awaken... what effect would it have on a creature's CR? Just equal to the hit dice increase? How much does the extra Intelligence/Charisma account for. Particularly the intelligence. Smarter tactics = higher CR, I suppose... Secondly, I have the same question about Awaken Construct and Awaken Undead... how much do they affect the CR of a creature? I know there probably aren't any clear-cut rules on this... just looking for opinions and ideas. Thanks... |
| FireOpal03-03-06, 10:59 AM | Check the Monster Manual pgs290-294. Its the closest thing I have found that addresses what you are asking. Good question, as I have a pc that wants to use Awaken Construct in the near future and another pc that wants to use Awaken Undead. Nice group huh? If anyone has other suggestions, I'd love to see them!! Thanks! |
| RLRapp03-03-06, 10:29 PM | One thing to remember is the difference between CR and ECL. The CR probably wouldn't be nearly as big as during a single combat the intelligence of the creature is not going to have nearly as much effect as over a longer period. |
| Seraph of Babel03-04-06, 03:44 AM | Smarter tactics do not increase CR. If you think the tactical use of terrains/scenarios make the fight more difficult, use the circumstantial XP modifier in DMG, p.39. If the base creature has Int score, no CR adjustment for being awakened. If it is mindless (Int -), then CR +0 (11 or less HD), +1 (12-23 HD), or +2 (24+ HD). This CR adjustment is for the standard feats it gains as a result of having an Int score. See Dragon #327, p.73. |
