You only keep the ability modifiers, but have a LA higher than creatures that get MUCH more power! You should at least keep the AC or some of the immunities. |
| Galahad_Knight08-26-03, 10:39 PM | It's designed fpr people who want to roleplay, not people who want to be combat tanks. I suggest the Maug from Fiend Folio. They;re intelligent constructs, total ECL is only +5 (2 HD, +3 LA), they're quite bright, they;re cosmic mercenaries and they fight to bring meaning to their lives. There's your tank right there. Why didn;t Dr Frankenstein bolt some steel plating to his monster's body and replace his hands with axe heads? That'd certainly make his creation more powerful...but that's not WHY he created his "monster" |
| YaoiGoddess08-26-03, 10:47 PM | I don't mean that they should be combat tanks. But even elves and halflings have some abilities. Awakened constructs don't even get low light vision! |
| Oberon_of_Avalon08-26-03, 10:52 PM | Again, this template is for people who don't care. You are an iron golem. You can't remember much before you "woke up," only that there was a man who told you what to do. You did it, and you did it without emotion, without thought, without feeling. Then one day you "woke up," and looked at the world around you. In a world of fleshy creatures, you are an abomination. But you want to be like them. You want to live like them. So what do you do? Forsake your cold metal body and become flesh, to live amongst the fleshy creatures that your soul longs to be with. |
| Galahad_Knight08-27-03, 12:41 AM | Besides, come to think of it, an awakened stone golem has a +4 LA. That's the same as a hill giant. You get the same AC and better strength than the hill giant. Your con is lower, but you have better mental stats. It's not that bad of a deal. I could see coing up with a slightly lower LA since the LA for colems is baded on having all their abilieits and, thus, pretty darned high. Even with the -2 that the template gives. But still, it's mailny meant for people who want an interesting RP background. Oh, and awakened golems who are Large or larger *do* get low-light vision from being a Giant-type creature. |
| R.M.G.C.L.F.08-27-03, 05:51 PM | I believe you mean "construct incarnate". As far as I know awakened constructs retain all they had before becoming sentient. |
| Eggplantman08-27-03, 10:07 PM | You can't awaken a construct (just to be technical) the spell is for animals and trees only. Incarnate construct does not make the toughest monster on the planet but it does make a very interesting big humanod or giant. Savage species does introduce the idea of playing a flesh golem with all the regular traits except with a normal roll for intelligence with some big minuses and a charisma of 1. I think the idea is that some golems are created who are self aware in some fashion. A kind of magical mistake of sorts. I played this race and it had some big pros and cons. You are immune to all forms of energy and pretty much anything except for weapon damage but if you drop to zero hit points it is all over. The total lack of weapon proficiencies and NO CLASS SKILLS is also hard to deal with. |
| R.M.G.C.L.F.08-27-03, 10:10 PM | I'm pretty sure that SS had some spells called "awaken construct" and "awaken undead". |
