| ArochanoX10-31-07, 12:59 AM | I'm not sure if there are any official rulings about that. Because awakening actually doesn't do anything but give the animal an intelligence score that is actually worth something (maybe a grand total of 1 skill point per HD more), it's fair to assume that it doesn't raise the CR or the CR raise should be +1 at max. The level adjustment and ECL is entirely other thing, don't assume that I said "awakened animals shouldn't have LA". |

Between giving the animal some tactical capacity, a bit more meat on its bones, and darkvision, I would say that it is worth +1 CR to any animal that has 10 HD or less, but would not increase the CR of an animal with 11 or more. |

By following normal monster advancement rules for animals +4 HD = +1 CR IIRC. So +2 HD is somewhere about +½CR. Then the intelligence and darkvision may or may not boost the CR to +1. My first statement thus stays accurate: it's fair to assume that it doesn't raise the CR or the CR raise should be +1 at max. |
| Dead_Weasel10-31-07, 07:58 PM | +1 per 3 HD addedI had completely forgotten that there were rules for increasing CR with HD, but I still feel that it should just receive the CR +1 so long as it does not already have a lot of HD. The creature is gaining immunity to a number of spells that used to specifically target it along with intelligence. If you do not consider those equivalent to one HD, then you obviously do not have to raise the CR accordingly. |
