| Yellow Wizard10-24-03, 12:32 PM | I've treid to calculate the LA for the baatezu subtype (which gives resitance/immunities to all elements plus DR and SR). According to Savage Species, it should be somewhere around 5-7. However, all the devils in the Monster Manual have a LA of 0 for these abilities. Let me explain how. If you take a devil (bearded, erinyes, or chain) and calculate the LA for its abilites other than the Baatezu abilites, such as fly and natural armour. The combined LA is equal to their LA, therefore the LA of the Baatezu abilites must be 0. It seems according to Wizards, that all the benefits of being a Baatezu are equal to the draw backs (death at 0 hp, no ressurection, and being hunted by all demons and celestials). Do you agree that these benefits = the drawbacks, or are my calculations just totally wrong? |

For example if a creature had 5 HD, and a spell like abilities that were 3rd level spells, they wouldn't count for LA, because a 5th level cleric/wiz/sorc can cast them too. The same can happen with other abilities, but it isn't as defined (in fact, it only really shows in the acid test). The acid test is also VERY important, and a lot of people forget to do one. Acid tests are when you compare the creature to a character of the CALCULATED ECL, then lower/higher it to make them equal. So your calculations aren't wrong, you just need to compare it and you should get things right. |
