Cryforge 09-07-06, 04:39 PM	I just came to the monster section because I decided that I wanted to comment on my vote for Baker's artwork. I suddenly realized that no thread had been made! So, welcome to the thread where you can talk about your vote, the art, and similar things. I, personally, voted for art number 2, because not only does it best fit the description in my mind, but it is creepy like the dickens! (What are the dickens, anyways? Are they those fey in the background? They're creepy too. :P)
Slagger the Chuul 09-08-06, 07:57 AM	I'm not sure any of them is completely ideal (bu then, what is?), but the second excels with its sinister atmosphere. The only place it doesn't quite fit is in its relatively ordinary shape. From the way the blasphemous geometries ability was described, it should look like it was drawn by M.C. Escher on bad acid. :)
Morka 09-08-06, 10:15 AM	I prefer the third choice. The two first ones call too much "Modron" to my taste. I thought the vote was over for selecting the picture?

I picked #2 because it was so much like how I pictured it in my mind based on the description that it actually scared me. WotC better not be using mind probes on me! Here is the description by the way (I noticed it was hard to locate when I went to vote for the picture). Shifting cogs and shining spindles comprise the body of this creature, but as they revolve to grip the surrounding trees they become… unnatural. They ripple like flesh, passing through each other like smoke. And in the middle of it all is a single glaring eye. When this living mechanism tried to calculate nature, its very reality shattered into contradicted insanity. Its retinue of evil fey is intoxicated by its loathing for instinct and life. The [Baker] draws attention by striking directly and openly, employing powerful defenses that protect it from most attacks. This frees its minions to harass opponents. --Slagger the Chuul -420

Over many months WotC has been posting various polls in order to create a new D&D creature based solely on community input! The Vorpal Tribble 09-08-06, 03:02 PM	Ahh... why am I the last to ever know about these things? I like the first and think its the best drawn, but it just doesn't seem to go with the theme of the thing. The second in my opinion just looks dumb and still doesn't seem to have anything to do with the theme. I voted on the third, for though its not really the best drawn of the bunch, it does seem much more interesting and appropriate than the other two. The concept of the thing is extremely cool to I thought I might mention.
Cryforge 09-08-06, 04:24 PM	The results are up! NUMBER 2 WINS! Number three came in dead last, which is odd, because I thought it was at least better than number 1. The creature will appear in an unannounced book, but I'm gonna' announce what I'm extremely sure it will be. At GenCon, in a seminar, Wizards previewed a cover for a July 2007 release. It looked like a Monster Manual, and might be Monster Manual V (hopefully better than MMIV). The Baker will find its place there, I'll bet.

Furthermore, the winning art has golden threads linign its arms. Dude, we have just voted for a walking, one-eyed, robot-like sewing machine.

Cryforge 09-09-06, 04:44 PM	It matches the description of spindles and cogs, so I don't see the problem. It's a forest-dwelling aberration, but it looks like it belongs in a factory. That's called irony, and I think it works out very well. Besides, do we really need another aberration that is a mass of tentacles in one way or another? This guy is cool because he variates from the norm.
