If Balor can summon a Balor does that mean the Balor in the monster manual is CR 20 with both balors? Would they get more experience if they killed both balors? Balor can't kill Tarrasque who is also CR 20 (no wish or miracle for one thing and his ranged magic at will won't defeat the spell resistence consistently or it won't do more then the fast healing... unless he summons another balor).

So technically two balors is just one CR 20 monster right? I mean since it's part of his ability to summon another one.

One balor with his summoning power is a CR 20. If the party kills the Balor before he can summon or chooses to summon, they still get the xp for a balor. If he summons another one and they kill them both, it's the same xp. If you set them against 2 balors, they get xp for 2 blaors.

Remember, the summoned balor can be dispelled.

hes right, but to expand a bit, if you set them against 2 balors (cr 22) you could end up fighting 4 in total, without changing the cr or treasure.

I thought that summoning abilities were already calculated into the CR of a creature?

And that the summoned creature is irrevelant because the primary creature has that taken into account.

And remember, the Balor may end up wasting his action as most demon summonings only work for a percentage of the time.
