In a match between a Balor and a Daelkyr from Eberron who do you think would have the upper hand? The giant flaming behemoth from the Abyss, or the scheming, mutating, horrifying Lord of Madness? Both are CR 20 creatures with powerful and destructive skills and powers at their hand.

A balor has more ways to instantly slay something than a uranium bomb. Balor. :)

True, though I consider the Daelkyr to be the more interesting of the two creatures. He could outsmart the Balor on the other hand.

There are six Daelkyr who would be weak enough that a Balor would stand a chance against. These are the Daelkyr trapped in Khyber, away from the empowering influence of Xoriat. These six are more powerful than the Daelkyr in the ECS, even without their home plane's power. They are Dyrrn the Corrupter, mightiest of the Daelkyr in Khyber, Belashyrra, the Lord of Eyes, who created the beholders, Orlassk, the lord of stone, who may have created the medusae, and Kyrzin, the lord of slimes.

Since all other Daelkyr are safe at home in Xoriat, they are empowered by the plane. There are no CR 20 Daelkyr; that is the baseline from which the powers of the others are drawn.

So which one is the Balor fighting?

A MM Balor vs a ECS Daelkyr, straight out of the books.

Stat for stat, I'm not sure who would win, but I would definately be rooting for the Daelkyr. Madness incarnate, an entire civilization of racially insane power houses. Not to mention, that they are credited (in Eberron of course) with the creation of nearly all the iconical aberrations we know and love. Totally rad!
