| Yipwyg the Mighty09-19-03, 05:31 PM | I would like statistics for beavers and dire beavers. I've tried to find them for a long time, but to no avail. Any ideas? |
| Silimaure09-20-03, 10:10 PM | Are we talking 3.0 or 3.5? If 3.0, turn to the animal appendix, and Dire is in the Dire section (In the d's :p) |
| Rothgar Skullsplitter09-20-03, 10:17 PM | You talking about the appendix in the MM? Because there's no beavers listed in it at all. Try the Creature Catalog; they might be there. And if they are not, they shouldn't be too hard to write up. ;) |
| Veneficus09-21-03, 09:56 PM | If I wanted stats for a Beaver, I would use the stats of the Badger but remove its rage ability. For a dire beaver, I would use this article (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=816&ncid=816&e=1&u=/ap/20030918/ap_on_sc/giant_rodent) as justification to use the stats of the Bison. Both Badger and Bison are in the Monster Manual. |
| Rotipher09-22-03, 12:31 PM | The reason the "dire beaver" wasn't published in the MM to begin with is because the giant beaver -- unlike the other 1E/2E giant mammals, which were converted to dire ones for 3E -- was originally an intelligent creature. If it *had* been converted in the original 3E Monster Manual, it would have been a sentient magical beast like the giant eagle or giant owl, not a dire animal. There's no reason you can't create your own dire beaver, of course. Rather than base it on the (non-rodent) badger, I'd recommend modifying the dire rat, by removing its disease-transmission and giving it another HD or two and a moderate swim speed. |
