| Rob-hin01-28-04, 11:20 AM | I have a little disagreement with a player in the quest I'm DM'ing. Is Bebilith's Rend armor a free action or a standard action? Rend armor: If a Bebilith hits with both claws attacks, it pulls apart any armor worn by it's foe. It deals 4d6+18 damage to the opponent's armor.... etc It's a extra ordinary ability. The Bebilith has 3 attacks, 2 claws and a bite. * My reasoning is this: If both claws hit (thus roll high enough to hit the opponent) it does normal damage to it's opponent. Both his claws passed by his opponent's armor, when the Bebilith pulls his claws back, it tries to pull off any armor worn by its opponent and thus does damage to the armor. (if the hardness doesn't stop the damage) Extraordinary abilities are usually free actions since they happen in a reactive fashion. (like the uncanny dodge ability) * My player's reasoning is this: The Bebilith's rend armor is a equivalent of a standard action, thus an attack. The same counts for doing damage. It can not do both damage AND try to rip apart the armor. The fact that it is a extraordinary ability is only important for spell resistance and other things like it. |
| Will Brandiman01-28-04, 11:31 AM | I would say it's not an action at all. It just happens automatically if both claws hit. It's no different to injecting poison with a bite or sting. |
| TWG_Prometheus01-28-04, 02:44 PM | I don't know what kind of 'action' that might be either, but it wouldn't be another standard action. It's just like rend...you get hit with both, you feel the pain. Good choice, by the way. Bebiliths rock. My PCs might be meeting one this weekend. |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast01-28-04, 02:48 PM | Yup, Bebliliths are something else. My players hate them :smirk: Anyway, I have taken it to mean that it can automatically rend the armour, without using a standard action or even a free action. It just does it, like a normal rend. |
| Shadowfax701-28-04, 03:51 PM | Wrong thread. |
| cwslyclgh01-28-04, 04:16 PM | it is no type of action on the bebiliths part, it happens automatically if the conditions are met. |
| Rob-hin01-28-04, 04:30 PM | Thanks everyone!:) |
| Factol Rhys01-29-04, 09:44 PM | Already been answered, but I'll chime in anyway. It's automatic and instantaneous if both claws hit, like a troll's rend ability. |
| Shemeska the Marauder01-30-04, 12:51 AM | Yep, just what everyone here has said so far, it's automatic on the 'liths part. I adore Bebilith's, especially multiple double hit die Bebiliths in narrow passages in clifffaces in Carceri. And in that case, players with +5 shields HATE them. *snicker* |
