Hi

I was thinking of creating a Lich and if you as DM create a lich it is very easy but if your a playing character I was wondering how you deal with the +4 base levels.

Lets assume that I'm a level 16 Wizard and wana create a Phylactery and there after use it, will I be a Lich and a 16th level Wizard or what happens with the +4 base levels?

Hope I made it clear what my question is :)

In order to level up to Wizard level 17, you'd have to aquire the XP total normally need to level up to level 21.
Effectivly, your level 16 Wizard lich is now a level 20 character just with a template instead of 4 levels

Thank you, it was what I was hoping was the rule :)

Keep in mind that this may affect the average party level.

Conversely, you can use the template levels found here. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20031212a)

So as to not unbalance your party.

So with that template I could be a lv 16 wizzy/ 4 Lich with no LA and I would be a lv 20 char. I LIKE IT!

Well you may notice with the template levels you don't gain HD, BAB, Saves, or Skills (other than the bonus skill points given by this particular template).

However it does allow you to 'level up' as a lich and keep relitive party balance. This negates the fear most DMs have from allowing PCs to have aquired templates because they tend to make characters much more powerful.

Nice link Nived :)

I can realy use that... one more question just to the stupid (me), Do I have to read the link as it is just a prestige class you have to pay for in gp (beside xp), so when you want to become 1st level Lich you need to gain a level and as you gain the level you can choose Lich level one (still have to create the things)?
