| Light_Colonel06-13-07, 08:00 AM | does anyone have stats for a bee? Do you mean a normal bee or a giant bee? African or European? Honeybee or otherbee? |
| Slagger the Chuul06-13-07, 08:26 AM | Honeybee or otherbee? Or half a bee? |
| The Vorpal Tribble06-13-07, 08:51 AM | I statted up a killer bee swarm a few months ago: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=817884 |
| demoniciron06-13-07, 10:25 AM | honeybee and wasp. i'm interested because i'm making a bee oriented civilization for my game, but couldnt find stats for individual fine sized bees |
| Evil DM Mk306-13-07, 10:40 AM | They do not have apreciable stats in anything but a swarm. Bats and toads only get a stat block so thaty can act as familairs I mean no attacks! A bee just isn't dangerous enough, once you get enough to be dnagerous it is a swarm. |
| demoniciron06-13-07, 11:41 AM | ok ten does anyone have stats for a bee swarm? |
| Evil DM Mk306-13-07, 05:20 PM | I statted up a killer bee swarm a few months ago: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=817884 Good enough. ANY bee/wasp swarm can be deadly, levels of deadly are not needed. |
| Orchomenos06-13-07, 05:59 PM | Can't believe no one wrote that yet. From the SRD: Giant Bee (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/monstersVermin.html#giant-bee) Giant Wasp (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/monstersVermin.html#giant-wasp) If memory serves, there's a Monstrous humanoid in MM2 called the Abeil, they seem to be anthropomorphic bees, perhaps even with a queen stronger than the average ones. |
| Dead_Weasel06-13-07, 06:08 PM | But those are Giant and anthropomorphic bees. The OP is clearly asking for regular-sized bees. |
| RavenDrake06-14-07, 01:50 AM | I'd say start with the Giant Bee for baseline stats, and reduce it fine size(-10 strength, minimum 1, -2 Constitution, and +8 Dex), and then build your swarm... Honeybee Swarm Size/Type: Fine Vermin (Swarm) Hit Dice: 6d8-6 (21 hp) Initiative: +6 Speed: 5 ft. (1 square), fly 40 ft. (good) Armor Class: 24 (+8 size, +6 Dex), touch 24, flat-footed 18 Base Attack/Grapple: +4/— Attack: Swarm (2d6 plus poison) Full Attack: Swarm (2d6 plus poison) Space/Reach: 10 ft./0 ft. Special Attacks: Distraction, poison Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., immune to weapon damage, low-light vision, swarm traits Saves: Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +3 Abilities: Str 1, Dex 22, Con 9, Int -, Wis 12, Cha 9 Skills: Spot +5, Survival +1* Feats: - Environment: Temperate forrest Organization: Hive (1-4 swarms) Challenge Rating: 3 Treasure: None Alignment: Neutral Advancement: None Level Adjustment: — As you turn over the rock, a gentle humming drone fills your ears. It grows louder and louder as a vast cloud of yellow and black insects fills the air around you.. Honeybees are a social insect that congregate in swarms for protection and to build thier hives. They're quite small, usually about half an inch long, with a thick abdomen banded with yellow and black stripes. Honeybees are not especially dangerous and generally do not attack creatures as a swarm unless thier hives are directly threatened. Many farmers keep one or more hives on thier property in special colony boxes to harvest the honey and wax the bee's collect. Combat If the bees feel thier hive is directly threatened they will take to the air and swarm around thier foe. Thier stings are painful and inject a mild venom which in large doses can be harmful or even fatal. Most of the time, however, a bee swarm will not persue creature once it has left the vicinity of thier hive and making a hasty retreat after discovering a hive by accident is generally enough to discourage pursuit. Distraction(Ex): Any living creature that begins its turn with a honeybee swarm in its space must succeed on a DC 12 Fortitude save or be nauseated for 1 round. The save DC is Constitution-based. Poison: Injury, Fortitude DC 12, initial and secondary damage 1d2 Con. The save DC is Constitution-based. A honeybee that successfully stings another creature pulls away, leaving its stinger in the creature. The bee then dies. Because of this each round a honeybee swarm successfully deals Swarm Damage to any creature it suffers 1 hitpoint worth of damage. *Skills: Honeybee's recieve a +4 bonus on Spot checks. *They also have a +4 racial bonus on Survival checks to orient themselves. Killer Bees Killer Bees are a particularly dangerous and agressive species of honeybee. While they are ostensibly the same as honeybees(if slightly larger) they savagely attack any creature who nears thier nests, and will chase a creature for up to a mile attacking it if they disturb the hive. Killer Bees are identical to Honeybees except for the following ability: Frenzy(Ex): Killer bee swarms are brutal and vicious and they swarm and sting with ease. Any creature who passes through a square occupied by a Killer bee swarm takes 1d6 points of swarm damage, plus poison. Apply this damage only once per swarm, regardless of how many squares of a patricular individual swarm they pass through. Killer bee swarms take damage from inflicting frenzy damage just as they do from dealing regular swarm damage. |
| Potato_Dragon06-14-07, 02:56 AM | Why would a mindless honeybee swarm have a cha of 9? |
| RavenDrake06-14-07, 04:18 AM | Why would a mindless honeybee swarm have a cha of 9? Err... because the Giant Bee I used as the baseline did. I hadn't really thought about it... Looking through the MM, all of the "giant" insects have between 9-11 charisma. The "Monsterous" vermin, however, all have cha of 2 or less. They all have no intelligence and comperable wisdom, so I really have no idea where the discrepency comes from, aside from Creator A made the Giant vermin and Creator B made the Monsterous. I honestly can't see a problem with them retaining the higher Charisma, but if it really bothers you feel free to drop it 2. |
| The Vorpal Tribble06-14-07, 08:29 AM | Just thought that I might mention that killer bees ARE honey bees, just aggressive and actually form swarms in real life to attack. Normally honeybees don't really. |
| DebiHuman06-14-07, 11:30 AM | Wouldn't honeybees have treasure in terms of both honey and beeswax? |
| dengarbountyhunter06-14-07, 02:01 PM | From a PC's perspective, a pint of honey is probably not worth much, especially considering the trouble of harvesting and carrying it. And finding a buyer. |
| RavenDrake06-14-07, 02:21 PM | Well, Sealing Wax is listed at 1gp per pound, though it's been treated and refined... raw bees wax isn't that useful. Honey I can't seem to find a listing for, food-wise, but I couldn't imagine it being that expensive... I'd probably price it at 20-50% more per pound than sugar. |
| Evil DM Mk306-14-07, 03:48 PM | Just thought that I might mention that killer bees ARE honey bees, just aggressive and actually form swarms in real life to attack. Normally honeybees don't really.Indeed they are from a warmer climate originaly and became very agressive in the climate they where transported to. Also of note "normal" bees DO swarm, but only to look for new hives sites, typicaly after a new queen emerges and leaves the hive. |
| RavenDrake06-14-07, 07:21 PM | Yes. And as I pointed out, Honeybees only "swarm" out of thier hive to defend it. You generally don't encounter roaming swarms of honeybees. Once you leave sight of the hive the honeybees will break apart and leave you alone(generally). The Killer bees have temperment more like a Yellowjacket and will chase you down just to sting you for looking at them wrong. |
| demoniciron06-15-07, 10:36 AM | thanx for the stats. |
