A Beholder can attack with 3 eye rays and a bite whether it takes a standard action or full-round action, since both an attack and full-attack have the same number of attacks.

Thus strategically it is best to have the Beholder take a standard action attack and take a move action to re-position the beholder for the next attack every round.

It could also be that the attack action entry is an error . . . and shouldn't include the bite attack ?? The 3.5 MM errata is not out yet. :D

where did you get this Shadowfax? you seem to be talking about the old mm. the new mm doesnt say anything about that 3 eye rays per round?

It's not 3 per round, its 3 in any 90 degree arc, IIRC. I believe if you read the entire section on beholders it explains this. There is a "general" section, followed by the baby beholder, and finally the big guy himself.

The number of rays per arc is in the general section (IIRC).
