I simply does not have my book with me, and last time I talked to me friend over the phone, he told me it was not in the book anyway.

My question is this.

Beholder have many eyes attack in form of rays. In a full attack action, how many of them they can use ?

Can they use all their 10 rays attack in the same round ?

I'm certain that beholders and gauths can use all their eye rays in one round, but I don't know about the central eys' attacks. I think that only two eyes (for the gauth) or 3 eyes (beholder) can be pointed in any given 90 degree arc.

The exception to that is that all eyes can fire up.

There is no limit put on how many of the beholder's eyestalk powers can be used in a round. Each ray can be fired once per round though no more than three can be aimed at targets in a given 90 degree arc. All the eyes can be fired at targets above it.

(Had a character once try a death from above type maneuver. 6 out of 10 saves failed).

Once per round on its turn the beholder decides if the anti magic eye is on/off by opening or closing the eye.

Now there is a difference in 3.5. I read through the beholder description there and didnt see any limit on firing arcs. Though the central eye works the same.

If the eyestalks can all fire up, can't the beholder just roll forward with it's central eye pointing at the ground? This way it can fire all eyebeams at once, at any target before it.

I'll probably sound stupid when I say this, but, 90 degree arc? If you're a circle, and you have lines coming off you, don't you have an unlimited number of 90 degree arcs to choose from?

Can some one clarify this? Or do I need to look in my Algebra 2 text book?

Ok, my book is back and now I see that my friend was too quick to check.

All the information about the eyes are in the book. The page is 25, and the book is monster manual 3.5

Up and down are considered a 90 degree arc so a beholder can, as a free action use all its eyes. Only 3 of them at any Given moment can point in the same direction. Up, down, front, back, left, right.

The central eyes is considered a free action too and is not counted in the list as 1 on those third eye limits. So a beholder can direct 3 eyes in front of him + his central eyes.

Good.

Funny thing is... I asked the question and now I am the one answering myself. I hope it can help others too.

You did help!

So, basically, a 90 degree arc is just perpendicular? I thought that's what is was, but than I thought, "they have all-around vision. This can't be right".

Oh well. I hope that I'll never have to meet a beholder.

ok, the central eye is not a free action, I was mistaken. It is a standard action.

What is a 90 degre angle... well.

Look, you have your beholder facing the north. Now, trace a line that start from the beholder's center, and that goes to the north.

Now, imagine that the center of the beholder is point 0.

Calculate an angle of 45 degree from that line, at point 0, that goes to the east, and do the same the other side of the line, to the west.

This will give you the 90 degre angle where the beholder is facing.

In other words, the 90 degree angle is rougly a cone.

The MM errata states that the eye attack is a free action . . . now the MM already stated that the eye attacks were free actions, so I would presume that the errata is referring to the central eye.

The Anti-Magic Cone is a Su ability and would normally have been a standard action.

The errata also increased the attack bonus of the bite by +5.

I know what I 90 degree angle is, and what a 90 degree arc is.

I guess I was over-thinking everything. I've just decided that what they mean in the book is that the beholder can only fire 3 eyes to the left, right, back or front, maximum.
