Beholders, Mind Flayers, and the SRD [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-11-05, 12:21 PM Why aren't beholders and mind flayers in the SRD? At first I thought that the SRD only hosted monsters that Gary Gygax didn't come up with from his imagination, but the displacer beast is there, as well as a number of other monsters from his imagination too.
I don't mind because their in the MM, and I don't publish D&D stuff, but I'm just wondering.

08-11-05, 01:55 PM I think the handful of creatures that were entirely TSR's (and thus WotC's) aren't available for the OGL.

A lot of the other creatures have some sort of historical or outside of TSR origins. But some are just from early TSR workings.
