| Critical Mass05-20-05, 06:27 PM | My tenth-level warlock/fighter gish just got his hands on a wand of polymorph self. My first thought was the firbolg, but the way my DM hands out experience that's three extremely long levels off; i don't have my MM3 on hand either so I can't check the HD of the War Troll. My Str is only 16 so even the generic troll would be a good improvement, but this is a low money game (we each have only half the normal 10th level starting gold in equipment) and combats are hard so I don't want to waste my precious charges on something suboptimal. I did just take my first level of Doomlord so [healing] spells only heal me for half the normal amount, so regeneration or fast healing would be great but isn't really a requirement. What can I become at only 10HD and still wreck me up some pizza faces? |

I'm not sure what the best equipment using forms are, but my current Wizzard uses forms like the Remorhaz (depending on the DMs reading of Heat and Swallow Whole), Behir, and Tendriculous for their grappling and swallowing attacks. I'm not sure if they are 'optimal', but all three have Str in the mid 20s, 20ish Con, and about 20 AC (and some of them can deal energy damage). The Roper can also be fun, especially if you can fly. Those are all from the 3.5 MM. By the way, you do not get regeneration or fast healing from Polymorph, as I'm pretty sure those are not considered natural qualities (they should be either Ex or Su, I believe). Polymorph gives you natural abilities, and Ex Attacks only, not Ex Qualities, Su abilities, or SLAs. |

This means I can't do anything Huge or bigger and I become disoriented, but since I'm casting out of a wand and my CL's only six anyway it means I can actually become something with a decent amount of HD (3.5 caps at least of CL vs target's HD, 3e caps at max). This almost means it's up to his interperatation if I get regen, since the PHB says all natural qualities and I'm not sure if he "believes" in errata. So... anything good in the Diminuative - Large categories? I'd prefer something I can shift into, keep my equipment, and go to town with my greatsword in, but something like the ones you listed that rely on their own attacks is fine too. Just as long as it's more impressive than a freaking troll. As a side note, the Devil's Sight/Darkness incantation combo is too good in 3e. |
