| wamagni09-02-04, 06:10 PM | Hey, I was wondering...what would be the best CR 1 Combat monster. One that could most effectively...well...kill stuff in combat. Thanks guys. |
| ChaoticGod09-02-04, 08:06 PM | Hmm, Darkmantle Ghoul Spiderswarm |
| Thuragrun09-02-04, 11:52 PM | Ghoul, all the way!! |
| Werebat troll paladin09-03-04, 12:10 AM | NPC's Specifically Orc barbarians (I had a DM run us against ones that could deal 1d12+12). Oh the horror of fearing CR 1's at level 4. If you don't want something that harsh, go with blood hawks. I think they're CR 1. |
| Black Jack Davey09-03-04, 07:48 PM | I think the best CR 1 combat would be multiple 'monsters' below CR 1. |
| wamagni09-03-04, 07:51 PM | What book's a blood hawk from? |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht09-03-04, 08:22 PM | What book's a blood hawk from? Fiend Folio. And yes, a first level Orc Barbarian is the best CR 1 monster. |
| wamagni09-04-04, 01:56 AM | Well the reason i wanted to know, was because i'm using the form mage class, and i'm trying to make him as good as possible. He's in the classes section, i think second or third page. I've decided on a psudeodragon for my scouting and such form, Because it's tiny and has a fly speed, and i'm not sure what to do for my CR 1 Combat form. I was thinking a Krenshar or Darkmantle, but then i realized that Krenshars suck. I don't think i can advance them by giving them class levels without a metaform feat, which i can't use because i'm first level. I'll try to find the link for the Form Mage. Anyone got more opinions? I think i've decided to go with darkmantle, because it has good STR and decent CON, plus a few nifty abilities. Now i need to pick my CR 2 and 3 forms. Open to suggestions! |

| Steelgryphon09-04-04, 05:06 PM | Bumpig is against the CoC if you do it more then 1 time every 48 hours |
| wamagni09-04-04, 05:46 PM | I havent bumped in the last 48 hours though... |
| Festering Drippage09-04-04, 10:55 PM | If you're going to get the MM3 then I suggest taking the Dracotaur for your CR3 |
| wamagni09-06-04, 03:09 AM | I took a look at the sample dracotaur, and it doesn't look that good. There's a lot better choices out there. CR 3 has a lot of the incoporeals, and shadows are quite good. Hell hounds are also better IMO. Could you point out to me what is so good about Dracotaurs? |
| Yoho1.509-06-04, 12:30 PM | I'd have to agree with 1st LV orc Barbarian. As an interesting aside, NPC classes from the DMG are -1 to CR, so you could have an EL 0 monster with 2 levels of warrior or adept still be CR 1. A 2nd level orc warrior has slightly better BAB (+2), fort Save (+3), HP (2d8+ con bonus x2), and better equipment (2000gp). Rage is fun, but a tanked up (fullplate and lg shield) orc with a weapon focus Feat and a masterwork scimitar, might make for a long tought grind of a fight. If your willing to alter the orcs base scores you could up con at the expense of strength, and get a good bonus in HP. |
