| jazak09-21-06, 03:34 PM | I am starting up a campaign and looking for monsters to go with it.I don't know what ones,any setting,thanks.:) |
| Foxhengeyokai09-21-06, 03:44 PM | If you want help, you're going to have to tell us more about what you need. What kind of roles do you want those monsters to fill? Is it a standard campaign or low-magic? Psionics or not? Again, In order to really help you, we need to more about want you want. |
| jazak09-21-06, 03:48 PM | I am looking for a low level campaign, with fairly easy monsters to get things rolling. |
| Lord_Gareth09-21-06, 03:50 PM | You can never go wrong with the Big Three; Goblins, Kobolds, Orcs. They're the backbone of all monsterous resistance to those pesky adventurers. Also, dragon wyrmlings can make great opponents if you use 'em right. But don't push it, a black wyrmling can take out a 6-man party of level 1 characters. And, if you REALLY wanna be sick, humans are always willing to fight themselves. Bandits, cultists, murderers, pick a few and toss 'em in for flavor |
| jazak09-21-06, 03:52 PM | Thanks |
| Foxhengeyokai09-21-06, 03:52 PM | Don't forget about dire rats, skeletons, and zombies! |
| RobbyPants09-21-06, 04:00 PM | Some small and medium sized verim can be a decent, but not deadly, challange. Also, don't forget the occasional low-level NPC working with the monsters. |
| Parrex09-21-06, 04:45 PM | Pit trap reflex save DC 15, Drops the party into a small undergound cavern via smooth slope DC 20 climb check to get back out. Their landing is cushioned by something squishy, one sunrod/light spell/torch later they find themselves surrounded by a Spider Swarm CR 1, a daunting task to the uninformed, it's actually a relatively easy encounter, or if the party is overwhelmed they can easily flee. DC 15 Knowledge (Nature) check This is a spider swarm. Reveals all vermin and swarm traits. DC 20 Knowledge (Nature) check Reveals the type of poison and the most likely tactic of swarm clean-up. But it has no treasure, so to remedy that once the swarm is killed or the party decides to flee they run across... The Spider Queen This can either be a Medium monstrous spider or a large monstorus spider, CR 1 or 2 respectively. DC 15 Knowledge (Nature) check This is a big spider. Reveals all vermin traits. DC 20 Knowledge (Nature) check Reveals the type of poison and weaknesses. Say that a pile of nearby skeletons houses the queens treasure. Spot Check DC 12 to notice skeletons. Search Check DC 5 for 10% of treasure, DC 7 for 25%, DC 9 for 50%, DC 12 for 75%, and DC 15 for 100% of treasure. Using Centipede's under the same pretenses makes for a nasty encounter for a party of level 6-8. Centipede Swarms (4) Monstrous Centipede (Gargantuan) (1) |

| Lord_Gareth09-21-06, 06:58 PM | Because humans fight smart. Humans fight dirty. Humans will do anything and everything to eviscerate you and pee on the corpse. That's why. |
| Parrex09-22-06, 12:12 PM | Humans are also ruthless and cowardly. They are more likely to run away, ambush you later, flee to the next town, spread dirty rumors about you, hunt down your family, hold them hostage, and force you to make perveted choices between the people you love and countless innocents. Humans can progress even with the party, hire other humans, infiltrate your ranks, stab you in the back or in your sleep, and then, when you are at your weakest, laugh at your pitiful attempts to survive. |
| Dunamin09-22-06, 12:21 PM | Because humans fight smart. Humans fight dirty. Humans will do anything and everything to eviscerate you and pee on the corpse. That's why. You have got to be kidding me. Orcs, goblins and kobolds are ok, but throwing humans at a party is sick? Who says humans generally fight dirtier than orcs? Who says humans generally treat their foes worse than goblins? Who says humans generally are more likely to "pee on your corpse" than kobolds? I would think quite quite the opposite, if only due to the other races' general disposition towards evil. Humans are also ruthless and cowardly. Orcs are generally ruthless. Goblins and kobolds are generally cowardly. Humans are not generally more likely to exhibit any of the traits you mention due to racial heritage than these other creatures. Throwing a group of human bandits at a party is perfectly normal, not "sick". |
