| darkwarren04-29-04, 10:44 AM | Just trying to get some ideas for an 8th level party... |
| Thomar_of_Uointer04-29-04, 12:02 PM | +5 holy cold iron longsword. |
| Thomar_of_Uointer04-29-04, 12:12 PM | How about immersing him in holy water for a year? You could probably find an ocean of that in one of the Upper planes. Teleporting him to the heart of Celestia. Someone's bound to kill him there. Use polymorph to make yourself look like him, go kick the terrasque in the snout, then run through a portal to wherever the demon is that is big enough to fit the terrasque, and hide. Fire. Lots and lots of fire. Ask a diety nicely. Go get a Paladin to do it. Get an army of Paladins to do it. Finger of Death. Multiple Implosions. |
| Ogre4Hire04-29-04, 08:50 PM | Just what kind of demon did you have in mind? It matters whether this is a Dretch, Vrock, Succubus, or Balor, you know. |
| eonblueapocalypse04-29-04, 08:56 PM | Teleporting him to the heart of Celestia. Someone's bound to kill him there This reminds me of a campaign I played in once, its was epic level and we were fighting Graz'zt. All I really remember is that our DM was screwing us over hardcore(the cheating bastard) and my Sorcerer ended up using a wish spell. My Sorcerer wished that Gra'zzt be instantly teleported to Celestia, permanantly. The DM wouldent let the wish go through but stopped screwing us over lol. |
| primemover00304-30-04, 06:02 PM | I'm pretty sure Grazz't would've mad the Will save on that one... Demons eh? Cold iron, Holy weapon, Holy Water, Hired Paladins:) |
| Melles, Lord of Badgers04-30-04, 07:13 PM | nail to the sky of the elemental plane of holy water, a spell you guys could figure out |
| darkwarren05-11-04, 09:12 PM | Well, we've fought some low-level demons and we know we're in for some more... not sure which ones. But, I'm assuming that they are at least equal for a 9-10th level party (no pit fiends nor demon princes). The problem is/was that we did not have an opportunity to prepare between our last adventure and this one. We have gold, but did not get a chance to spend it on new weapons, armor, magic, etc. |
| Ogre4Hire05-12-04, 12:15 AM | Killing Demons: Buy a +1 Holy Bane Vs. Evil Outsider Cold Iron weapon for your best melee character. It's expensive, but you should hear'm squeal when you hit them with it. Backup combatants (ie, rogues) should invest in a non-magical Cold Iron weapon, and the party cleric should prepare Align Weapon and Greater Magic Weapon to cast on it. Prepare or buy scrolls of Magic Circle Against Evil. If the fiend is Medium sized, it will allow two characters to flank it and still gain the protection value from it. Also have the cleric buy a few scrolls of Holy Smite if he has the Good Domain so he can cause a little extra punishment without fear of causing friendly fire. The Wizard/Sorcerer should have a few Dispel Magics handy to dispell the fiend's SLAs (this is especially important if the fiend successfully uses its innate summoning ability). Also get a scroll of Dimentional Anchor to keep it from teleporting away when it gets wounded. Equip everyone in the party with a few vials of Holy Water. If nothing else, a character can always try to give the demon a bath. Remember their resistances. Combined with them having all good saves, this means that most fire and cold spells available at your level probably won't do too much. Prepping an Empowered Magic Missile is much more cost effective than a Fireball. Go find the local temple of Pelor, Heironious, or whatever the equivialant dieties of your campiegn world are, and see if you can get any help (cough-hireapaladin-cough). Did I forget anything? |

I think you covered it. The spell bashisment is a great spell also to use against them but I gave it an extra twist to it. The spell lvl is 7th and gets no save vs any outsider not native to the material plane. If the demon's HD is below the caster lvl the demon is destroyed other wise it is sent back to where it came from and can't return for a long time. Any ways I hope this helps you. |
| Count Arioch the 28th05-12-04, 08:51 AM | On a more reasonable level, I recommend that someone be able to cast Dimensional Anchor. It is vital if you don't want the demons teleporting off to harass you later. |
| darkwarren05-12-04, 08:59 AM | my character is a Pal 1 / Abj 7... The problem we face is that as of right now we can't forsee anyway to "prepare" for demons by buying the items/spells many of you are suggesting. An 8th level party with a +5 cold iron holy longsword? How about standard spells that are available to 8th and 9th level clerics and spellcasters... those suggestions are great ideas. Thanks. |
| Count Arioch the 28th05-12-04, 09:07 AM | You're an Abjurer? Great! Get Dimensional anchor, it is vital. you hit a demon, it fails it's save, it can't escape by teleporting, which means it can't get friedns to attack you, or harass you at a alater time. |
| darkwarren05-12-04, 09:55 AM | I'm hoping to reach 9th level (Pal 1 / Abj 8) next session and Dimensional Anchor is on my list of spells to get. I've also just realized that spell completion items of the paladin spell variety are available to my character so I'm going to look for a Bless Weapon wand or perhaps a Holy Sword wand... |
| eonblueapocalypse05-12-04, 01:25 PM | You Cleric should cast Rightous Might on your main Fighter/Tank type character. Also if you Cleric can get access to the Book of Exalted Deeds there are plenty of spells great for fiend slaying. |
| Valgard05-12-04, 02:20 PM | To kill that demon go find the Order of the Chalice, they will even pay you for saying where that demon is. |
| darkwarren05-12-04, 02:44 PM | Righteous Might has a range of personal and a target of you... so he could cast it on himself... |
| eonblueapocalypse05-12-04, 02:55 PM | whoops.......sorry bout, that I dont have my books on hand at the moment so I was merely making a suggestion. I apologise for my error. |
| eggplantm05-13-04, 12:38 PM | Cleric - prepare align weapon multiple times Paladin - prepare bless weapon multiple times Don't use electricity spells as demons are immune. They are resistant to cold and fire and immune to poison as well. Any ohter spellcasters should memorize protection from evil. This little spell will prevent the demon from attacking whoever cast it until that person directly attacks the demon. If your wizard casts it, you can walk around the battlefield and buff your companions at your leisure. As can your cleric. This spell is on almost every class's list as well. If you are not able to shop before tackling the demon, this is about all the advice I can give you. |
