For world of Ere, I'm introducing a number of giant bugs that are as smart as horses or other animals.

Would they still be Vermin? Or would they be Animals or Beasts?

It wouldn't be vermin, vermin are characterized by - intelligence.

It would be Animal if it had 1-2 int.

It would be Beast if it had greater than 2 int.

Skill points equal to (2 + Int modifier, minimum 1) per Hit Die, with quadruple skill points for the first Hit Die, if the vermin has an Intelligence score. However, most vermin are mindless
Note it says Most, not all. I would keep them with the Vermin type. They do, of course, lose the mindless quality for having an Int score.

Of course, everything in the book is 'unless otherwise noted', so you could make it a giant and still be within the rules. But if it's got animal intelligence, it's probably better off as an animal.

it would either be magical beast or abberation, beasts must have 1-2 int

Leads me to believe beast or animal fits just fine.

No. A Vermin must have -- int. And the beast type has been removed in 3.5. Make them magical beasts, since they're still based off of a real creature. Also, removie their immunity to mind affecting abilities.

I'm not even going to pretend to legitimize 3.5

Could be a bit nicer about it. Some of us barely knew anything else.

I am truly sympathetic to you, The Fan. I am. But my hatred of what the 'revision did to the game runs deep. Including the loss of the very useful (balancewise and sense wise) Beast type.

I'm not saying I never played under anything else. I played 3.0 for nearly a year. It just took me about three months to figure out some of the flaws that 3.5 corrected, so I saw it as a welcome change.

Oh well, if you like 3.0, different strokes and all. Just be kind to people with a different viewpoint.

If you really want to talk about it, come on over to my forums (see sig)

I vote to keep them the Vermin type, and ignore the "Mindless" quality.
