Base attack/grapple: +20/+16 Armor class: 24 (+1 size, +6 natural, +2 dex, +5 insight), touch 18, flat-footed 22. Attack: Psychic wave (ranged touch +23 / 2d4 + stun DC 29). Space/reach: 5 ft./5 ft. Saves: Fort +14, Refl +13, Will +13. Abilities: Str 10, Con 14, Dex 12, Int 18, Wis 8, Cha 28. Special Qualities: Outsider Traits, blindsense 60ft., sustenance, DR 5/magic, SR 31. Special Attacks: Hideous Lighter Aura. Feats: Weapon Focus (psychic wave), dodge, iron will, skill focus (listen), ability focus (Hideous Laughter Aura), improved initiative. Alignment: Neutral Evil. Bimoffu is an enigmatic creature found in unexplored arcane sites. It usually doesn't move, and stand still in the same place and moves only if strictly necessary. Anyone who enter his Hideous Laughter Aura radius is immediately affected by it, and Bimoffu will attack with his psychic waves anyone who tries to resist the effect. Bimoffu are often captures by evil wizards who use them as torture instruments or prison guards. The face of Bimoffu is always looking down, and the fur on the top of his head resembles a laughing face. COMBAT Psychic Wave (su): A Bimoffy can emit waves of psychic energy to deal damage to creatures within 60ft. Any creature hit by Bimoffu's psychic wave must succeed on a Fortitude roll (DC 29) or be stunned for 1 round (DC is charisma based). Success on this check doesn't reduce the damage. Sustenance (ex): A Bimoffu doesn't need to sleep or eat. Hideous Laughter Aura (su): Bimoffu radiates a 60ft. radius aura of Hideous Laughter energy. Any creature who enters this aura must make a will save (DC 31 - charisma based) of be affected by an effect similar to Tasha's Hideous Laughter (caster level 20). The effect lasts as long as the creature stays within the radius (which may be very long, since the creature cannot move), but he can make another will save every hour to stop the effect. A creature who succeeds on the test is immune to the effect of the aura for 1d4 rounds thereafter. A creature with an Intelligence score of 2 or lower is not affected. -------------------------- I'm terrible at determining CR, so I'll leave it up to you. Tell me if there are any calculation or technical mistakes. Same thing about skills. |
| pierow3706-04-06, 10:27 AM | It need some sort of natural attack. If all it can do is stun and make people luagh, how does it eat. Sure its an outsider, but still, it needs to comsume something, make it feed on something, which means it must have at least ONE real attack, such as a bite or claw. Even making the Psonic wave do damage would work, i would suggest about 3d6 dmg. If the DC succeds, then make them not paralized, but still take half 3d6 dmg. I would say, becasue of it's high HP, and no real attacks, CR 11. But thats just my opinion, im pretty bad at determaning that as well. |
| pileobone06-04-06, 01:04 PM | Small OutsiderIt's usually customary to include whether an Outsider is either "native" or "extraplanar". This can potentially be a big deal when dealing with things like Banishment. Hit Dice: 20d10+40 (160hp)Should'a been (150 hp) Speed: 15 feet (3 squares). That's a rather unusual land speed for any sized creature. Most Small creatures get a 20 ft. land speed, with some exceptions. Attack: Psychic wave (ranged touch +24 / 1d4 + stun DC 29).His attack bonus here should be +23 (+20 BAB +1 size +1 dex +1 weapon focus) Feats: Weapon Focus (psychic wave), dodge, iron will, skill focus (listen), ability focus (Hideous Laughter Wave).20 HD creatures get 7 feats, just a 20'th level character. Bimoffu is an enigmatic creature found in unexplored arcane creatures.Huh? They're found inside creatures? Typo? I hope... Psychic Wave (ex): Any creature hit by Bimoffu's psychic wave must succeed on a Fortitude roll (DC 29) or be stunned for 1 round. DC is intelligence based.IMO, this should be a Supernatural ability and should be Charisma-based. Also, you should probably just go ahead and break down his Psychic Wave ability in it's entirety here. What is it? How do they generate it? Hideous Laughter Wave (su): Bimoffu radiates a 60ft. radius aura of Hideous Laughter Wave. Any creature who enters this aura must make a will save (DC 31 - intelligence based) of be affected by an effect similar to Tasha's Hideous Laughter (caster level 20). The effect lasts as long as the creature stays within the radius (which may be very long, since the creature cannot move), but he can make another will save every hour to stop the effect. A creature with an Intelligence score of 2 or lower is not affected. This isn't really a "Wave" per se, more of an aura if anything. I'm not sure if I'm feeling this, it doesn't really seem to sit well with the rest of the creature. A little explaining might make this ability seem a lot more feasible. Now to some mechanics. As Dok would tell you, likely rather emphatically, the DC's for Supernatural abilities are always Charisma-based, without exception. And I would speculate that if you where to make it's Intelligence a little lower, and raise it's Charisma to put out a higher DC, you might find it easier to pick which skills to take. As I imagine you're wondering where exactly to stick this things 391 skill points :D |

Native Outsiders do however. |
| ncquinta06-04-06, 01:51 PM | Thanks for all those details. It's usually customary to include whether an Outsider is either "native" or "extraplanar". This can potentially be a big deal when dealing with things like Banishment. Right. I'll make it Extraplanar. Should'a been (150 hp) Ok, I was not sure. That's a rather unusual land speed for any sized creature. Most Small creatures get a 20 ft. land speed, with some exceptions. Its legs are short, and since he doesn't move around much, he'll usually not use them. His attack bonus here should be +23 (+20 BAB +1 size +1 dex +1 weapon focus) Right, I thought of his dex as +2. 20 HD creatures get 7 feats, just a 20'th level character. Any suggestions? I was out of ideas. Huh? They're found inside creatures? Typo? I hope... hehehe, my mistake. Inside unexplored arcane sites. IMO, this should be a Supernatural ability and should be Charisma-based. Ok, I guess I'll just swap his Charisma and Intelligence. Also, you should probably just go ahead and break down his Psychic Wave ability in it's entirety here. What is it? How do they generate it? Ok. And are there guidelines for damage? Or can I just make it 3d6, like pierow suggested? I just noticed it's pretty helpless, because you can easily kill it with ranged attacks without getting inside the aura. This isn't really a "Wave" per se, more of an aura if anything. I'm not sure if I'm feeling this, it doesn't really seem to sit well with the rest of the creature. A little explaining might make this ability seem a lot more feasible. Now to some mechanics. Well, it's pretty much the essence of the creature. I originally designed the creature to be a worker in a prison of a city, so people instead of being locked behind bars, they would be "locked" inside the laughing aura. I will explain and suggest that, since it makes a lot more sense that the creature is not found alone, or it'll be easily killed. As for skills, I didn't set them on purpose. Too much hard work... I'll leave that to DMs. I'd like to discuss it a bit further before I make the changes. |
| pileobone06-04-06, 01:58 PM | Ok. And are there guidelines for damage? Or can I just make it 3d6, like pierow suggested? I just noticed it's pretty helpless, because you can easily kill it with ranged attacks without getting inside the aura. There's guidelines for natural attacks, but for this you can make it whatever seems appropriate. 3d6 doesn't sound unreasonable, depending on the CR you are aiming for. |
| ncquinta06-05-06, 09:41 AM | Ok, I did my first update on it, I hope it's better now. |
| pileobone06-05-06, 10:47 AM | Looks better. Couple quick questions I didn't address last time. Armor class: 24 (+1 size, +6 natural, +2 dex, +5 insight), touch 18, flat-footed 22.Where is he getting an insight bonus from? A bonus like that should be explained with an appropriate Special Quality. Question 2: On your Hideous Laughter Aura, what happens if a creature makes the save? Is he immune for that round? For 24 hours? Until approximately the next lunar cycle? When man, when? |

A bonus like that should be explained with an appropriate Special Quality. Question 2: On your Hideous Laughter Aura, what happens if a creature makes the save? Is he immune for that round? For 24 hours? Until approximately the next lunar cycle? When man, when? Ok, changed it to 1d4 rounds. It would be too weak if it was "immune for the rest of the day". As for the insight bonus... well, every time I've seen insight bonuses they were on really powerful creatures, but not explanation other than that. |
| pileobone06-05-06, 02:36 PM | As for the insight bonus... well, every time I've seen insight bonuses they were on really powerful creatures, but not explanation other than that.I'm not familiar with any, do you have an example? |
| ncquinta06-05-06, 09:42 PM | That I can recall right now, the demon lords from Book of Vile Darkness, and the Saint template from the book of exalted deeds. |
