| Lanky Ogre Baggy Pants04-23-07, 10:34 PM | I need help figuring out what kind of minions a wyrm black dragon might have. The problem is that the dragon is in a unique position that affects what kind of minions it could have. The campaign is FR, so I will use those geographic features, but they aren't that important for the help. The dragon is from the Chultan peninsula (southern jungle/marsh) and used to have a contented life terrorizing the locals and brooding in his wet, disgusting lair. Then along came a group of adventurers, as adventurers are wont to do and tried to kill him and take all of his treasure. The adventurers managed to defeat the dragon and cripple him, but for some reason they forgot to make sure he was dead, or lot his physical body. They stripped his lair down to the mud/rock/earth and proceded on their merry lives. During the combat the elven wizard in the party managed to permanently blind the dragon, and then one of his forelegs was irrevocably crippled. He managed to survive this humiliating experience, but is now even more hateful and bitter than he was before. He also has no eyesight, lost the use of one foreleg, and is wracked by pains and ill-health. Overall this has nothing to do with my campaign, the adventurers were not my party of PCs, nor do my PCs have any of the dragon's wealth, but the dragon has migrated to the High Forest, where he plans to wage a war of terror on the local elves, as well as the elves of Evereska and Silverymoon. He currently has cleared out a 35 mile diameter area of the High Forest that he is trying to flood and turn into a marsh. He was able to bring a tribe of lizardfolk with him, as well as a few dracotaurs, but other than that he won't have many swampy minions. What kind of minions could he have acquired or brought with him now that he is in the High Forest? And the PCs happen to be travelling through the area that the dragon controls. It was supposed to be hints and hooks for when they are higher level, but they bypassed the lizardfolk patrols and are now heading straight for the dragons lair. They are only 3rd level, but I don't mind if they see things that are too powerful for them, as long as their are ways for them to escape. |
| Dead_Weasel04-24-07, 02:04 AM | Dragon Magic has Viletooth Lizardfolk (CR 1), which are essentially lizardfolk with a minor black dragon heritage. MM4 has the Spawn of Tiamat, which include the Blackspawn Raider (CR 4) and Blackspawn Stalker (CR 9), which are human-ish and spider-ish, respectively. If none of these perks your interest, perhaps a half-black dragon hydra (CR 6 w/ 5 heads) would be appropriate to a particularly swampy part of the forest. |

Also, take a look at what creatures are indigenous to the area already and add the half-dragon (black) template to them. What's worse than a dire bear? A dire bear with wings and a breath weapon :D |
