The black pudding's acid ability states:

Any melee hit or constrict attack deals acid damage, and the opponent’s armor and clothing dissolve and become useless immediately unless they succeed on DC 21 Reflex saves.

What constitutes armor and clothing? I know it sounds silly and I realize that leather armor, for example, is armor, but is a cloak of resistance considered clothing? What about a belt of strength? That's what's confusing me and my players.

This is D&D. Common sense doesn't apply. ;)

Seriously, that's what I'm trying to do. For example, I consider a cloak to be clothing. But what do bracers count as? Are they armor? Are they clothing? Are they just pieces of leather/metal that go around your arms? What about a belt? Is it considered clothing?

I would consider bracers to be armor, they are large armored shin guard looking things you wear on your armos after all... cloak, belt, boots, robe, hat, gloves etc. is what I would consider clothing, most stuff that you "wear"... although I would not consider jewelry to be clothing.

I also think that this sentence from the creature's description is far too ambiguous for the effect it implies (i.e. dissolving everything on a PC).

It looks like the intended effect is that if the ooze hits, all the non-wooden and non-metal clothing and/or armor that a character is wearing are destroyed if the Reflex save is failed (hopefully this PC isn't carrying the party's bag of holding on their belt). Since this is a melee attack, I don't think any magic items on the character would get any extra saving throw. If the ooze hits with its improved grab ability and constricts a character, the metal and/or wooden items on their body would begin to take 21 points of acid damage after 1 round, as long as the character remains grappled.

It would also seem logical that any character attacking the ooze with unarmed attacks (such as a Monk) would take acid damage with each hit, although this is not stated anywhere.

It's not official, but what I might suggest as a houserule is to treat failing the Reflex save like rolling a natural 1 for the purpose of determining what happens to equipment.
