| Dumat07-31-06, 09:30 PM | I'm working on a psionic flying mount that can be scaled up to stronger versions for higher-level characters. This is the base creature. Have at it! Bladewing Raptor (CR 5) Neutral Large Magical Beast [Psionic] Init: +3 Languages: Dominarr, Auran AC: 16 (-1 size, +3 Dex, +4 natural) touch 12, flat-footed 12 Hit Dice: 4d10+4 (26 hp) Power Resistance: 14 Fort +5 / Ref +7/ Will +4 Speed: 10 ft. (2 squares); fly 80 ft. (good) Full Attack: 2 claws +6 melee (1d6+3) and bite +1 melee (bite, 1d8+1) Base attack/Grapple: +4/+11 Special Attacks: Fling feather, psi-like abilities Ability Scores: Str 16, Dex 16, Con 12, Int 12, Wis 16, Cha 17 Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., low-light vision Feats: Psionic Weapon, Flyby Attack Skills: Concentration +8, Listen +10, Spot +10 A large, dark-feathered bird circles overhead. The tips of its wing and tail feathers glow a faint violet. Suddenly it dives toward you, its extended talons crackling with psionic power. Bladewing raptors appeared, as many new species did, during a Starsong. The raptors are intelligent and learned Dominarr from the ancestors of the Norr people. When the Crystal Star's (http://www.metafaculty.com/star.html) most recent active phase spawned all manner of monstrosities, the raptors banded together with the Norr (http://www.metafaculty.com/norr.html) for mutual aid. The two species have a shared history reaching back thousands of years, and many raptors serve as mounts to Norr warriors. Although they are poorly matched in a one-on-one confrontation, bladewings hate dragons of all kinds and will attack them as a group if they have a reasonable chance of success. Combat Fling Feather (Psi): A bladewing raptor can psionically crystallize one of its feathers and fling it at an opponent within 35 feet once every d4 rounds. The raptor must succeed on a ranged touch attack when flinging a crystal feather. The feather is razor-sharp and deals 4d6 points of piercing damage. Psi-Like Abilities: 3/day-hustle; 1/day-metaphysical claw. Manifester level 4th. |
| Dumat08-01-06, 10:42 AM | Anyone? No criticisms? have I created the perfect CR 5 flying mount (whaaaatever!)? |
| pileobone08-01-06, 12:19 PM | Full Attack: 2 claws +7 melee (1d6+3) and bite +2 melee (bite, 1d8+1)You forgot the size modifier here. -1 for Large sized creatures. Should be: Full Attack: 2 claws +6 melee (1d6+3) and bite +1 melee (bite, 1d8+1) Fling Feather (Psi):I don't really think this should be a touch attack. It's not a ray, just a crystallized feather propelled psionically. Much like an everyday spear thrown with Telekinetic Thrust. 4d6? Ouch, this thing must have some big ol' feathers. ;) Ability Scores: Str 16, Dex 16, Con 12, Int 12, Wis 16, Cha 17Con seems a bit low for a Large sized creature. Other than that, looks pretty good. The CR seems ok to me, though I'm not a great judge of such things. How about a description? |
| Dumat08-01-06, 12:30 PM | Thanks for the input! I will double-check the attack business. Re the fling feather: it's actually just a flavored up crystal shard psi-like ability, flavored up to fit the bird theme. :) Hence the ray-ness. Con score is comparable to the Giant Eagle, which i'm basing much of this off of, so I'll probably leave it alone...although you do have a point about it's defenses being a little low for size/CR. I bumped the natural armor up one to compensate for HP lack. Thanks! |
