| Lord_Canius02-06-06, 05:29 PM | I was coming up with a creature, which looks sorta like a dragon, but like a crododile with wings, that looks sorta like an ogre mage. And then I had a brilliant thought! Why not just add templates? Anyway, is it possible for a Ogre Mage with a Half-Dragon template to also be a natural were-giant crocodile? Im fairly sure that by logical standards it would work, as the Lycanthrope only adds a sub-type to the creatures base type, but I just wanted to be sure. |
| blade_runner02-06-06, 05:57 PM | I personally think that you could use templates. In my oppinion you would be better off just making a new monster if you are going to use that many. Although, you don't have to let them know you are useing templates :shifty: |
| Th_Ar_Al02-06-06, 06:13 PM | I recently read I article about the using of templates, they give a example to create a Dr.Jekill/Mr.Hide usin a gorila licantrope. |
| Sye02-06-06, 06:13 PM | I'd say you have to be careful stacking templates. If you have a half-dragon minotaur, you couldn't then stack half-fiend on there because then you're no longer half, but thirds. But you could be a half-dragon minotaur afflicted with lycanthropy who then becomes a lich. But that's just silly. As a DM I would keep a close reign on this. No more than one. Besides, think of what it will do to your Level Adjustment. Half-dragon: +3 Minotaur: 6HD+2 Lycanthrope: +3 Lich: +4 Congratulations, your now an ECL 18 character with 6HD, crappy BAB and Saves, but your stats are impressive. Your idea of a half-dragon orge mage lycanthrope is fine, it doesn't violate any rules that I can think of. As long as you realize the penalties. Ogre mage: 5HD+7 Half-dragon: +3 Lycanthrope: +3 Even worse than my previous, ECL 18 with a whopping 5HD. That +8 to Con helps but your still looking at 80hp at best while the fighter could easily have over 200 and a CR 17 Merilith (demon) has 216hp. |
| Lord_Canius02-06-06, 06:55 PM | Ok, I just went ahead and added the templates, and on a side note, I'm not worrying about LA, as this monster is NEVER gonna be a PC, the actually point of making it is so I have an epic (in the sense of the word, not litteraly) "boss" type encounter for my players once they get high enough. Heres what I've come up so far. Ogre Mage, Half-Dragon (Black), Natural Were-Giant Crocodile LA +16 HD 7d8+12 + 5d8 STR 40 DEX 13 CON 31 INT 17 WIS 15 CHA 17 Base Attack +8 Attacks Bite +34 melee 2d8+27 Claw +23 melee 1d8 Tail slap +34 melee 1d12+27 This is all that I have compiled so far, as the extent of this creatures abilities is far beyond the scope of what I'm used to dealing with. I've estimated that the CR should be somewhere between 15 and 18, but, who the hell knows how the different abilities are going to interact with one another. BTW, I always roll ability scores when I tailor my own creatures, as oposed to using the elite array. I feel that it gives my villians a greater personality, just a personal preference. |
