| Ocom01-08-07, 03:06 PM | I have never been at asking people for something but I think that the community (you) can help me. Question I would like you to know: Why? I'm making a world, but refusing to just use the so-called "Pregenerated" creatures there. I will probably work on some creature types and add/remove some. But to do that i need information about the creatures. And now: What? I am looking for resources about creature types, behaviour and evolution. I need to underestand what the creature types are and why they are like that. So I'm looking for books, videos, websites, and of course your works if you are willing to share them :) |
| The Vorpal Tribble01-08-07, 03:14 PM | Just monster-based books in general or...? Lords of Madness goes into fantastic detail about the following creatures, up to and including their anatomy and eating habits: Aboleths Grell Illithids (mind flayers) Neogi Tsochar Fiendish Codex I and II are supposed to go into as much detail about demons and devils. Most of the newer books also go into a bit more detail than the old for creatures. Otherwise most just have a general bit about the creatures lives, some more than others. Other Monster books: Fiend Folio Monster Manual 3.5, III, and IV Monster-heavy books: Frostburn Sandstorm Stormwrack |
| Ocom01-08-07, 04:42 PM | I just finished looking over Lords of Madness and foung that very helpful. I figured out that the aberration creature type is not "Something unnatural" or "Should not exist". In short - they are creatures that are not from your native planet. So... a Neogi = Bad E.T. What I'm looking for is details about creatures, creature types actually. From the, more type specific, 3.5 books i only don't have access to the Fiendish Codex II. Does anyone know about any older books or from other systems about creatures. I have a friend who is a collector, that's why i have access to a lot of new books, and he has some older books. It does not have to be in 3.5, it can be in AD&D or other settings or systems like dark sun, or send links of interesting sites, articles, threads that you think would help me. |

Actually, they are all of the above. As mentioned in that book the Umber Hulk for example is an aberration, but it was made on the gaming world's planet via magical breeding. Elans from the Expanded Psionic Handbook are humans who went through a psionic process where they replaced their life force with pure psionic energy. They are not neccessarily evil or out to destroy life, they are just no longer a natural being that must eat, sleep or even age. I'm assuming you have looked in the MM 3.5 for basic info on monster types? |
| Ocom01-09-07, 08:27 AM | Yes i have looked at MM 3.5. Gives little information if it comes into details and i love the Goblin Subtype's description :twich: Anyway I'm going thread-hunting. I remember some threads about monsters, making new ones actually. |
