I'm working on an encounter for a set of adventures of mine. Basically the jist is the PCs will enter this large labratory-type room. Inside there is alchemical equipment etc etc. Anyways i am going to put the PCs up against a Brain In A Jar as a boss. What will make the battle interesting is that the room has 20 or 30 jars containing body parts, organs, fetuses, abominations and regular brains in order to confuse the PCs.

Alright, so the CR of the creature is a measley 4 and i need it somewhere near 14 or 15. Now i will advance its HD to 9, increasing it's CR by 1 (CR 5). It will have an elite array of stats (CR 6), and i think i may apply the Evolved Undead template a few times (CR 7-9). Now the thing is, since the Brain In A Jar is psionic (i'm going make some adjust it so it has psi-like abilities and not "psionics"), and i want to edit the template to give it a few more psi-like abilities instead of spell-like abilities. This is what i need a hand with.

Also any other modifications or templates (that don't change the brain's appearance so it can blend in) to increase the CR to my desired level you guys can come up with would be a great help.

One thing you could do is give it a few character levels in psion.

You could also always make it paragon :D (although that may be a little overkill).

Monster of Legend may work (I'm not sure if it applys to undead, but I don't think so).

Although i agree with you that giving it a few class levels would help, i sort of want to stay away from it. Mostly because i feel it will personify the creature a little too much. I want the brain to have sort of an "experiemnt" vibe, like something whoever works in the lab created. I like your suggestions though.

As the DM you could smiply talor it to your suiting (such as giving it teleport without error and adding several empty jars for it to teleport to, adding to the confusion, increasing the save DCs for its abilities, adding extra HD when it normaly couldn't have them and so on)

Also, there is a power, I fergot what it is called, that makes targets "overlook" you making it even harder to find. It may be weak, but if they can't find it it will still be a decent to dificult fight.

The teleporting idea is like... perfect. I am definatey using that one. Also i will have to look up that "overlook" power.

Found it, its Mass Cloud Mind (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicPowersAtoC.html#cloud-mind-mass)

I have to say, this is one interesting doozy of an encounter. Cloud Mind and Teleportation between jars is a great touch. But y'know what would really mess with them? Mind Switch

Could always give it the Phrenic template for psionic abilities as well.
