Breath Weapon Question [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-25-07, 02:12 AM Ok, here's a new one for you.

I am a druid Wildshaper and I need to know something about breath weapon uses. Say I use my breath weapon as a dragon, then have to wait, lets say 3 rounds to use it again, but I use my next turn to wildshape into something different, but something that has a breath weapon, like a cryohydra, do I still wait 2 more rounds or can I go ahead and use that one?

11-25-07, 06:46 PM Well first off, A druid can wild-shape only into an animal so a breath weapon is out.

Next you need to read up on Polymorph spell and you will see it states you gain all extraordinary special attacks possessed by the form (limited by your level vs Monster HD) but do not gain the extraordinary special qualities possessed by the new form or any supernatural or spell-like abilities. A breath weapon is a supernatural ability so if you polymorph into a dragon you don't get a breath weapon. (But you get strength, flights, and claws, etc.) If the creature had venom you would also get that.

If you use the shapechange spell (9th level Druid, Wiz/Sorc, animal) you do get those quailities and use a breath weapon. You also can change shape as a free action-so technically you could become a red dragon breath and next round switch to Black and Breath (I assume).

But as a 18th PC you might find a better spell to use in that 9th level slot. ;)

11-25-07, 07:37 PM Dragon wildshape from Draconomicon (am I right?). And shapechange IS a better way to use that spell slot. But you are right about the breath weapon (I think).
