Brown Dragons [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-16-04, 10:45 PM Well basically i want someones approval or disapproval. When encountering a brown dragon on an adventure one day, one of my friends decided to talk to the beast. Upon this queer moment my dm called me over to show me something. In the text for the brown dragon it said, in more fancy words, "it finds talking to its food weird." In my dnd group i basically enforce all the rules because i know them the best. Never seeing this before however, i suggested a house rule. A 50% chance that the dragon would be disgusted and would no longer want to eat us. Everyone thought it was fair after i explained that not everyone would like to kill and eat a chicken if it were to start talking to them. What do you think, is this a fair rule, or should the chance be greater or less likly to happen?

06-17-04, 07:22 AM If I recall, this evil dragon does not care if it's food can speak, it just doesn't see a point to conversing with lesser creatures that it intends to eat. that being said. it might be possible to bargain with it if you have something that it wants. Just be careful not to end up eaten.

06-17-04, 09:30 AM While I'm not familiar with brown dragons, it seems many dragons have to overcome the inherit oddness about talking food. Maybe some (metallics mostly) would just switch to livestock, but the chrmatics in general would just deal. Maybe the best way is to "eat first, no questions later".

That hasn't stopped me from eating any of them.

If someone were to "oink back" at a pig before eating it, I would consider that wierd... much like a dragon things "talking" to its food is wierd.

Really, what is the difference between a person talking and a pig oinking? If the dragon is going to eat it, it just sounds like any other animal noise.
