| Valkaun_Dain04-13-06, 12:22 AM | I'm not a DM so forgive my limited knowledge of Brown Mold's ecology and stats. We encountered some recently in the Age of Worms adventure path. Since it absorbs heat and multiplies when it does so we wondered aloud what would happen if you tossed a bit into an active volcano or "Teleported Without Error" a bit of it to the molten core of a planet(assuming it has one). Thoughts? We also thought it would make a great siege weapon ala the Boxed TrollsTM idea I posted here awhile back. In a ceramic jar place a bit of Brown Mold and a glass flask of Alchemist Fire. Launch off of a catapult and chaos ensues. |
| kire02404-13-06, 02:09 AM | I think it would not survive being tossed in lava/magma core as it may absorb heat I think the actual fire element would do the same thing it would do to anyone who jumps into a volcano. We also thought it would make a great siege weapon ala the Boxed TrollsTM idea I posted here awhile back. In a ceramic jar place a bit of Brown Mold and a glass flask of Alchemist Fire. Launch off of a catapult and chaos ensues. Now that would work in my opinion and would cause some fun. |

Thoughts? You aren't thinking big enough. Make a deal with Asmodeus (or whoever else passes as the devil in your campaign) for ultimate power when hell freezes over. Once done, open up a portal to hell and chuck in the brown mold. Hell freezes over and you gain real ultimate power. lol. |

Now that would work in my opinion and would cause some fun. You mean the flames would burn the mold up? I'm not so sure. When we encountered it (metagaming of course) we new what it was right away. This guy we play with didn't quite get it so he tossed a flask of oil and a torch on it to burn it up. We just shook our heads as it doubled in size. Heat, flames, etc don't hurt it afaik. It only makes it grow. |

We did discuss something along those lines but it was more about destroying Hell. I like your idea better. :D |

Or the devils could just teleport the mold to Cania so it would die instantly(pretty sure mold doesn't get a save against teleport) |
| Ront Iron-Roar04-13-06, 04:51 PM | I remember that stuff. The DM through an entire passage filled with that stuff at Ront. I think he had modified it somewhat so he was taking cold damage as it sprouted up and tried growing on his body as he ran through it. |
| savant_warlord1304-13-06, 04:58 PM | We did discuss something along those lines but it was more about destroying Hell. I like your idea better. :D it wouldn't work, as hell has 9 layers (which it wouldn't spread between), several of which are not fiery |
| Raven Dark04-13-06, 09:23 PM | it wouldn't work, as hell has 9 layers (which it wouldn't spread between), several of which are not fiery Does it really matter? If you can take out even a single layer of hell in under 6 seconds, killing everything not immune to cold damage on it, you have one heck of a bargaining chip on your shoulder! |

If you can take out even a single layer of hell in under 6 seconds, killing everything not immune to cold damage on it, you have one heck of a bargaining chip on your shoulder! It certainly could not be done in one round, and all baatezu have cold resistance 10 Also, do you think the lords of the nine are just going to sit there and let this happen? Their extreme power would be focused on stopping it. |
| VrecknidjX04-14-06, 08:13 AM | Um, yeah, some characters throw some mold onto a lower outer plane and it actually does anything. Right. ;) Dave |
| Raven Dark04-14-06, 11:33 AM | It certainly could not be done in one round, and all baatezu have cold resistance 10 It's expanding qualities are instantaneous. It will take out the layer very quickly if it is chock full of heat. Even with Cold Resistance, the baatezu would be smothered by the unbelievably quick growth of the mold. Last I cehcked most outsiders still needed to breathe. Even if you believe the mold would only double every 6 seconds (which is the slowest I can see it expanding when constantly surrounded by heat), than a fiery layer would still be overwhelmed before ANY of the devil's could do anything serious about it. If I had a pebble that doubled in size every 6 seconds, it would be bigger than the eath by the end of the day. |
| Boz Shulun04-15-06, 11:28 PM | Even with Cold Resistance, the baatezu would be smothered by the unbelievably quick growth of the mold. Last I cehcked most outsiders still needed to breathe. Poor saps would end up like Stephen King's character in the Creep Show movie. The suicide rate of baatezu would sky rocket. |
| Ront Iron-Roar04-16-06, 02:51 AM | They could all go to Stygia? Since Brown Mold dies from cold damage right? |
