| Daemeon_Blackheart05-02-04, 01:41 AM | I have a question. Can a Bugbaer can become a paladin and waht diety if any will he worship? |
| headlessfriar05-02-04, 02:13 AM | A bugbear of LG alingment can definatly be a paladin. As for what god,any god that normally has paly followers, as long as they aren't race-exclusive. That is, Moradin isn't likely to have a bugbear paladin, but Pelor (or whoever) would. |
| captainswift05-02-04, 02:17 AM | Unless your campaign specifies otherwise, any race can be any class. The deity he would worship is up to you; the principal bugbear god, Hruggek, is obviously innapropriate, as he is not lawful good (nor would any other bugbear deity be, I'd reckon). I prefer the Realms pantheon, and would probably go with Torm. |
| muppet_man05-02-04, 06:01 AM | if you look at the bugbears entry, under alignment is says "Alignment: Usually chaotic evil" so there can be the odd good bugbear, a LG paladin bugbear could follow any god that a paladin of that alignment does it depends on your campaign world, etc. of course if you have seen any of the paladin varients that allow paladins of different alignments (paladin of hatred, paladin of tyrany, etc) then you can have a neutral or evil paladin who worships any god fitting to its cause, alignmnet. the varient paladins rules appear in unearthed arcana and in a dragon issue #310 |

| Red_Decker05-02-04, 10:00 AM | Originally posted by Daemeon_Blackheart On that note can you write the varient paladin rules here if you can? Violates CoC, I think... To be on the safe side I'll tell you a little about them. Paladin of freedom CG, if you want them good this is the most likely route, its rare that a Bugbear would be good but rarer still that one would be lawful good. Even Drizzt is choatic good, still being of chaos but a champion of good. Paladin spells against chaos are switched with being opposed to law. Some of the other abilities are changed and I belive the Multiclass restriction is eliminated. [A class promoting freedow that can't multiclass seems redundant. Paladin of Tyrany LE, Better then regular IIRC the picture has a bugbear for this one. Rather than smite good, smite evil. Lay on Hands I believe is changed. Spells opposed to evil are now good. Paladin of the slaughter. CE, best choice for the race in question. The exact polar opposite of a normal paladin I believe all the changes of the other two are incorporated into this one. Hope that gives a little insight, if nothing else go to the bookstore and read it thru. http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |
| muppet_man05-02-04, 10:16 AM | I'm not sure if posting violate the CoC. the paladins from Unearthed arcana are what Red_Decker posted from Dragon Anarch CN, turns constructs rather than undead, arua of chaos, etc Avenger CG, a mix between standard paladin and anarch Sentinel NG, fights outsiders, gets turn outsider and resist fiendish. Incarnate N, A real sit on the fence type paladin Enforcer LN, a good paladin of st. cuthbert, designed to fight chaos. if you can try and get hold of a copy of 310 it has some good varients for paladin, fighter, monk, ranger |
| captainswift05-02-04, 12:32 PM | Yep. The summaries you guys have posted is fine. Posting actual rules information would violate CoC. Unfortunately, if you want more information, you need to get the books/mags. |
| Daemeon_Blackheart05-03-04, 12:27 AM | what is the best special mount for the bugbear paladin? I have looked at all available choices and can't decide |
| muppet_man05-03-04, 07:25 AM | As with what god it comes down to your campaign setting and the paladin its self. since Bugbears (http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/monstersBtoC.html#bugbear) are medium sized they could have any mount that a paladin of a standard race could have.(choosing mounts for larger(er) creatures can be difficult) depending on the bugbears level his mount may be different. if he has taken the leadership feat you could try for a dragon (http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/monstersDrtoDw.html#chromatic-dragons) (you may want to scan through some books fore this, the new DM's guide has some rules as does draconomicon) if the bugbear is evil you could ad the fiendish (http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/monstersEtoF.html#fiendish-creature) template to a normal mount such as a war horse. the hipogriffon (http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/monstersHtoI.html#hippogriff) is always a popular choice, and its neutral. I've allways found that nightmares (http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/monstersMtoN.html#nightmare) look cool for evil folk, i had one of these once as the mount for a death knight (from monster manual 2) if the bugbear is going to be good alligned you could try a pegasus (http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/monstersOtoR.html#pegasus) they seem like a popular choice for good paladins who can find one. again if the bugbear is going to be good then a unicorn (http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/monstersTtoZ.html#unicorn) could be an interestin choice (will look odd though, a bugbear on a unicorn  ) for a truely evil bastard that can find one of these and make it his mount then a wyvern (http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/monstersTtoZ.html#wyvern) will look nice you could try a winter wolf (http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/monstersTtoZ.html#winter-wolf) they are large sized and fun :D still i've found the standard mounts (http://geocities.com/sovelior/srd/monstersAnimal.html) to be more than fine |
| Thoth_Amon05-03-04, 09:15 AM | As with what god it comes down to your campaign setting and the paladin its self. If you are in the Realms, I would go with whatever good deity you like. I forget the book's title, but it had an Orc Paladin of Torm in it. Anythng is possible in The Forgotten Realms...:D |
