| Sleepwalker1366603-26-07, 04:56 PM | Burning Dead Burning Dead are the hateful skeletal remains of one burned to death. Necromancers rarely create these undead because they are impossible to control. Those that do usually put them in lairs for adventurers to stumble upon, but that the necromancer has no intention of going to himself. Lashing out wildly with it's blazing spiked chain, is a skeleton shrouded in flames wearing armor that glows orange with heat. Burning Dead CR 6 Neutral Evil, Medium Size Undead Init: +6 (Listen +13, Spot +13) Ac: 20 ,Touch 12, Flat-Footed 18 (10 +5 Breastplate, +2 Dex, +3 Natural) Hp: 52 (8 HD) DR: 5/ Silver Immune: Ability Damage, Ability Drain, Critical Hits, Energy Drain, Mind-Affecting, Non-Lethal Damage, Poison, Sleep, Paralysis, Stunning, Disease, Death Effects, Necromancy, Rebuking. Necromancers often equip their burning dead with spiked armor which will deal the additional 1d6 fire damage when grappled. Uncontrollable: Burning Dead are immune to all forms of mind control, even rebuking attempts, necromancy spells which would normally control undead fail to work against burning dead. Fire Bolt: As an attack action a burning dead can sling a bolt of fire, this is resolved as a ranged touch attack and has a range of 30 feet. The Fire deals 1d6 damage. Death Throes: When a burning dead is slain it's body violently erupts, dealing 5d6 damage to everything within a 15 foot radius, a reflex save DC 15 will reduce the damage by 1/2. Half the damage is considered fire, half is slashing. The slashing damage is subject to damage reduction. |
| KillerVole03-26-07, 10:00 PM | Sounds good. Can a reflex save reduce the death throws damage? If so, what's the DC? |
| Sleepwalker1366603-27-07, 04:08 AM | Sounds good. Can a reflex save reduce the death throws damage? If so, what's the DC? Yeah I totally forgot to put that, I'll fix that tonight, it's a reflex DC 15 for 1/2. Thank you for pointing that out. |
| Domriso03-27-07, 08:00 PM | Sweet. I like the fact that it can't be rebuked. Makes it more dangerous for the 'all-powerful' necromancers. |
| locustechpriest08-28-07, 03:13 AM | I vaguely remember seeing somehting similar to this... flaming skeleton... chains... spiked leather jacket... *cough* So do they have mounts or a motorcycle? :P |

| locustechpriest08-30-07, 09:30 PM | I believe you, Great Pumpkin. I agree with the general motion to template your undead, btw. Not to push you, but it would be grand! |

Thank you, the burning dead is one that I have considering temping up, that and the hanged man, the rune carved remains has such a fixed progression that i don't think it would work good as a template, bleeding bones seemed to get a weak response (compared to my other work) so while I could make a template for them I'm not sure it would go over well. But since interest in my undead seems to have resurfaced who knows. :D |
| Knitsuge11-18-07, 08:20 AM | I think the AC should be 20, not 21, according to the numbers you have after it, including the ff and touch ACs. Also, according to the PHB the spiked chain is a two-handed weapon, not a weapon that can be treated as two light weapons. It's probably in another book, but why the +6/+6 on the spiked chain? |

I did indeed mess up that AC, thank you for pointing that out, it has been correceted. As to the spiked chain, I did'nt double check the write up when I wrote this, and had long since forgotten that me and my group made a few tweaks to the chain, I'll have to make a few adjustments since you pointed that out. ----- Fixed, removed Two-Weapon Fighting and replaced with power attack, adjusted attack bonus and damage. |
| locustechpriest11-19-07, 11:23 AM | Nice to see this one again. Two handed power attack with the chains makes it all the more interesting! (^-^) |
| Knitsuge11-24-07, 04:30 PM | I tried one of these recently, but before you made the changes. I just added a spiked chain mastery feat that allowed him to treat the chain as either a two-handed weapon or as two light weapons. I think it went well, although he was the "weak" monster of the two they encountered, and was defeated fairly easily. Still I think he made an impression. |
