In a manga I'm particularly found of (Don't look at me like that, I'm not that bad of a fanboy), there is a scene where the protagonist is attacked by a mob of dead children, similar to the Effigy undead. Now, this grabbed my attention because fighting Undead is one thing, fighting Children is something entirely different. Min/Max-ers and other low-RPing players wouldn't have a problem with this, but considering that you're surrounded by a mob of children composed of equal parts flame and dead flesh, all crying and begging for help, how would a Cleric react? Or any other character?

So here I am, trying to figure out how to create a Undead that uses a dead child, fire and a mind-affecting ability to become a threat beyond what it's size would indicate. I haven't made the stats yet, but here are my thoughts on the Undead in question.

Small sized. Flame damage by touch (1D4 fire damage), attacks by grappling, a penalty for attacking the Undead (Will save) unless the attacker is a) A Barbarian whom is raging or b) Of the sort of mentality to which killing children is not a problem.

Ideas?

Slaymate in the Libris Mortiis. You could add the (Fire) subtype. Wham. there you go

I'd say have them just so pathetic that anyone looking on them must make a Will roll or be overcome with the horror and be stricken motionless for a few rounds (1d4) or until they are damaged (make a new roll every round, a second failure means the victim is terrified beyond belief and spends the next 2d4 rounds running like mad). And give extra EXP to any cleric who gives these pathetic undead a burial or what ever you decide they need to move on.

I did something similar for the horror effect - a whole city that was cursed and everyone died within a day, only to come back as zombies cursed to wander the city in a grotesque parody of their former lives. The pregnant woman with the zombie infant trying to claw it's way out freaked the party out to the point where one of the players had to leave the room for a few minutes!

Mission accomplished! Freak out achieved!

A denote on the slaymate: would two slaymates compliment each other's abilities? That pale aura.. would it be cumulative if you had more than one together? Even playing a necromancer, myself, I wouldn't do that, but.... what of someone yet less scrupulous than myself? You need an awesome necromantic ritual effect Gather, say, ten slaymates and use the aura...
