| Hedstrong10-18-05, 10:11 PM | I'd really apreciate any feedback you can give on my creation. Yes i am aware that a few feilds have been left blank, but this is beause i have not decided on what im going to do wiht them yet, i jsut want feedback on its main strcture. Disossare Mosca Huge Vermin Hit Dice: 10d8+60 (105) Initiative: +6 Speed: 80 ft. (Clumsy) Armor Class: 18 (+6 Dex, +4 Nat. Armor, -2 Size) BAB\GRP: +15\ +28 Full Attack: 2Claws +20 (1d8+8/x2), Proboscis +20 (1d8+5+Blood Drain) Space\Reach: 15ft.\ 10ft Special Attacks: Blood Drain, Distraction, Confuse Special Qualities: Vermin Traits, Scent, DR 5/ bludgeoning, Darkvision 60ft. Saves: Fort +16 Ref +12 Will-- Abilities: STR 21(+5), DEX 22(+6), CON 16(+3), INT -, WIS 11(+0), CHA 3(-4) Skills: Feats: Fly By Attack, Improved grab, Hover, Wing Over Organization: Single or Colony (4-12) CR:? Over the chirping of birds and insects, you begin to hear a steady rhythm of clicking sounds. Suddenly with a large whirring noise, you see what appears to be a butterfly the size of a large cart rise in front of you into the air. Attached to its underbelly are two very large and menacing claws that fold into each other. Disossare Mosca’s (Dm’s for short) are extremely large off shoots of butterflies, with two large claws that fold into each other underneath it’s stomach. A large proboscis juts out from just below that point. COMBAT Dm’s are simply bugs, thy wait all day in a comfortable spot and await their prey. In the Dm’s case anything of medium size or larger with blood. They will at first hover above its prey to see which ones have become under its Confuse effect. It will then attempt to grab an opponent with its claws, and grappling them. It will then rise high into the air and attempt to stab its prey with its Proboscis and drain it dry of blood, dropping the corpse onto its next victim. Blood Drain: A Dm will drain a grappled opponent of all its blood with its oversize Proboscis. If it strikes a grappled opponent with its Proboscis attack, it will drain 1d4+1 Con. Distraction: A Dm constantly makes a clicking sound from some part of its body. This causes each person to make a Will save (DC 18) or become Dazed. This effect lasts 1d3 rounds. After which they may make another save at DC 16. Any person who succeeds on a save is immune to this effect for 12 hours. Confuse: By concentrating its most annoying clicking noises a Dm can emit a noise that will scramble the brains of any creatures in a 20foot radius. This has the same effect as a Confuse spell. Improved Grab: Should a Dm hit with one of its claw attacks, it can make a grapple attempt as a free action. |
| moto10-18-05, 10:19 PM | Trie CR 6-7 for a group of 4, but it's really hard to tell with these things. |
| Hedstrong10-18-05, 10:28 PM | yea, i never was any good at determining Cr's and i dont really have much of an opportunity to play test this bug, so im hoping to pin it down soon, i think for now im gonna go with 7 for four. |
| dok10-19-05, 12:58 AM | Hit Dice: 10d8+60 (105) Constitution bonus is +3. 10 * 3 = +30 hit points, not +60. Likewise, hit points should be 75, not 106. Full Attack: 2Claws +20 (1d8+8/x2), Proboscis +20 (1d8+5+Blood Drain) BAB = +15, Strength = +5, size = -2. Total attack bonus for the Primary attach should be +18, not +20. Bonus for the Secondary attack should be +13 (15+5-2, -5 for secondary attack). Damage bonus for Claws should be strength bonus (+5). Damage bonus for Secondary attack (proboscis) should be 1/2 strenght bonus. (+2) Saves: Fort +16 Ref +12 Will-- Vermin have Good Fortitude saves. Base saves should be +7/+3/+3; modified saving throws then should be Fortitude +10, Reflex +9, Will +3. All creatures have a Will saving throw, even Vermin. Feats: Fly By Attack, Improved grab, Hover, Wing Over Creatures with no intelligence score (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/naturalSpecialAbilities.htm#nonabilities ) cannot have feats. Improved Grab is not a feat. It is a Special Ability. Blood Drain should have an (Ex) descriptor. The wording is unclear to me. In the stat block, it says the creature can attack with its probiscus and deal damage plus blood drain, but in the description it says it can only use blood drain against a grappled opponent. Also, the description sounds like the DM must use the "attack with a natural weapon" option when grappling, attacking with its probiscus at a -4 penalty in order to use blood drain. Is that what you intended, or did you mean that it worked on a successful grapple check, or perhaps it required pinning the opponent? Distraction needs to have a descriptor; probably (Ex), since vermin don't generally have (Su) abilities, and if the creature had (Sp) abilities, that would be more of a magical beast. The DC listed has two problems. First, it's inconsistent. (why 18 on first exposure, but 16 on later exposures?) Second, it doesn't follow any of the rules for determining DCs. Ex & Su abilities use 10 + 1/2 HD + appropriate ability score. (Charisma, in this case) So the DC should be 11. (10 + 5 - 4) Spell-like abilities use 10 + spell level + Charisma; so that's a DC of 6+ spell level; Confuse has the same problems. If the creature creates a spell-like effect of confusion around it, it's really more of a Magical Beast or an Abberation at that point. If the effect isn't spell-like (which is fine) then we still need a DC, again following that "10 + 1/2 HD + relevant ability" rule that gives us a DC of 11. |
| Hedstrong10-19-05, 03:55 PM | Those are all veryg ood points Dok, and i thank you for all of em, too tell you the truth i hadnt worked very hard on this and made i a rush job, since he game was that very hour. (hence all the little miscalculations and DC not worked out in actual formulas), i've changed those on my written version for when they fight them again soon, but i think itd be too much effort to edit my post at the moment, once again thx |
