| Jagyr Ebonwood10-11-05, 03:03 PM | I've been playing 3.0 for a few years, and 3.1 for about a year. Still, I'm fairly familiar with most aspects of the game, less psionics. However, for whatever reason, I never had reason to look into the stipulations on golems. In the MM3.5, the flesh golem is listed as having a market price of 20,000gp. If I came up with 20k, I could buy one, then? Rather than making it? Or is the market price simply a product of calculating the build price? If I did just buy one straight up (assuming a black market or something) would I have control over the thing? Or would it still be subject to the will of its creator? |

If I did just buy one straight up (assuming a black market or something) would I have control over the thing? Or would it still be subject to the will of its creator? I would say yes. See the Thayan Golem in Monsters of Faerun. (Or just ignore me if you don't have access to that book.) The Red Wizards of Thay sell them to merchants. |

I have always DMed this to mean that the creator could properly word a direct command and have the golem follow the orders of someone else. You could also look at the Rod of Construct Control in the Arms and Equipment Guide. I suggest not using the broken thing since, being 3.0, it is horribly overpowered and technically gives your PC's a method by which to capture and sell off every construct in your game-world. Enjoy, Unseenmage |

I would allow a golem creator to make a golem and then command it to follow the orders of whoever was buying it - BUT the original creator would NEVER give up complete control. It would be joint control. This way you can't really turn it against him, in an attempt to dodge payment or something. The creator could simply instruct the golem: "You will obey my commands. You will also obey the commands of this man here <points to you> unless I command otherwise." This is a safety switch for the creator. And, as the creator, I would explain this to you before construction. If you didn't like it, please, shop somewhere else for your golem needs. |
| ninja110-13-05, 12:28 PM | The golem’s creator can order the golem to obey the commands of another person (who might in turn place the golem under someone else’s control, and so on), but the golem’s creator can always resume control over his creation by commanding the golem to obey him alone. Enough said? :) |
