Races of the Dragon:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/953690000

Looks like the old tome's about to be replaced by the 3.5 edition.

Given that Wizards has stated that there will be more of a focus towards dragon in the upcoming year, this is probably going to be a significant sourcebook for new minis.

Dragonborn?
Spellscales?
more kobolds?
half-dragons?

beware, my feeble PC's...beWARE!!!!

Two things about this:
1. Wrong Forum

2. This will not replace the (3.5) Draconomicon (I don't know if there's an older book with the same name, and whether you refer to that).

The Draconomicon we have for the current D&D already uses 3.5e rules (not 3.0), and has a completely different angle than Races of the Dragon. While RotD will give use playable races with some dragonblood in them, the Draconomicon is all about Dragons in D&D: Their physical and psychological structure, advice for Dungeon Masters to portray them properly (including feats, PrC's and magic for dragons), advice for players to play with, as, alongside, and of course against, dragons (again with feats and PrC's and magic, with info about dragons as familiars, paladin mounts, cohorts, player characters). There's a monster section with tons of new dragons, more in depth description of the 10 classical dragon types, and of course one write-up for one dragon per age category per type (that's 120 dragon stats and character profiles), an expanded treasure generator and one sample hoard for dragons of all CRs (from 3 or so for the weakest wyrmling to 27 for the most powerful great wyrm).

There will also be a "Dragons of the Realms" FR book next year, but nothing more is known about that.

There is an older one (the original Draconomicron was a 2e FR sourcebook, IIRC), but hes no doubt refering to the 3.5 one (which apparently he mistook for a 3.0 one).

This is a very popular fourm, and one of the only ones I read. I am glad it was posted here. Whats everyone problem. Don't be jerks. ;)

This could be new and interesting dragons for D&D Minitures

It might mean new figures with the "dragon" type, but probably not dragons. Races of Dragon is like all the other races books, and seems primarily to be focused on making new options available to PCs. Considering the only Races of figure we've had so far that I know of is the Goliath Barbarian, we might not get anything in particular from this, and it's unlikely to introduce a bunch of new real dragon types (do we really need them anyway?).

:OMG!

Gaaaaaaah! Please, please, PLEASE no more dragons!

We already have them running out our ears. I mean, two books completely devoted to one type of creature? :twitch:

I'd personally prefer a book devoted to Plants, or maybe even Fey and that Seelie Court or whatever its called.

A book on plant-based PCs would be pretty cool.

The spellscales and dragonborn sound a lot like the dracha and mohj from Monte Cook's Arcane Evolved.

Firstly, apologies all round about the Draconomicon - upon further attention, it appears I was mistaken. This is, indeed, a new sourcebook altogther.

That, in my opinion, makes theis even more relevant to the minis forums.

The reason I posted it in the minis forum was because almost all of the minis we've seen thus far have come from existing sourcebooks. After Wizards' announcement earlier this year that it was going to move back towards the key dragon elements of the game, it seemed to follow logically that this would prove to be a valuable sourcebook for minis in upcoming sets. That it's due out in January, it seemed to to have much more potential of becomming a pertanent source than the "Scrying into War Drums" thread.

I really regret it being moved to another forum - this is the second time that I've started threads I felt were pertanent enough to share with others only to have it moved or deleted.

Frustrating to say the least...

I would VERY MUCH like to see it moved back to where I poted it in the first place.

Apparently Wizards forums are not the place to discuss D&D minis - I'll start shifting my attention back towards Maxminis.

Thanks again, guys.

The only good type of creature, now that they've made undead all cookie cutter horror movie rejects.

I hope the book has those winged kobolds, urds or whatever they're called. Then I can finally use the irsvern kobolds in my Eberron campaigns.

Ok then, wheres the books devoted to how to construct dungeons? I mean, really, the name doesn't mean a thing. I've played D&D for years and my characters have never met a dragon, nor have I found any need to use one in my campaign. I have no problem with those who do enjoy using them, I may even buy the Draconimicon just because I like the monster books, but we already have around 100 types of dragon, and their kin, and their sub species, and their gods... :surrender

Theres, what, 15 monsters types and Dragons are the only 'good type' left? :uh-huh:

now Tribbs, DMs decide which, if any, dragons to use in their games, and I think that the more options there are, the better

it is when DMs try to use EVERYTHING that problems start

There are 10 kinds of people in this world: those that understand binary, and those that don't

I see your binary joke and raise by "If only you and DEAD people know about hex, how many people know about hex?"

Yup.
Humanoid/Monsterous Humanoid/Giant -- just guys.
Fey - No coherence to the type, pretty much native outsiders.

Elemental - Not a lot farther you can take the theme, considering the elenetal subtypes.

Abberations - They'd be so cool if They weren't lumped into the Lovecraftian Horror theme and made Pointless Evil as a rule.

Plants - I like Aubrey II as much as the next guy, but there's not a lot you can go. Topiaries are neat though.

Magical Beast - Thanks to the loss of the Beast type (which was an actual interesting type), this once great type is dilluded with hippogriffs and owlbears that aren't magical at all.

Ooze - boooooring. There never was much to do with oozes, but they keep trying. Word + Ooze/Pudding has become a time honored tradition.

Construct - Nice, but a patholigical fear of putting machines in fantasy keeps them from reaching thier true potential.

Animals - Fun to template, not much else.

Outsider - If the outer reaches of the universe weren't a big morality play, these would be awesome.

Vermin - must be mindless. This is where they fail.

Undead - See also, Abberrations.

Deathless - they're undead, stop that.
