i didn't either to put it here or on the DM help forum.. but i thought here would be best...

I'm working on a adventure right now for my players where they have to pursue a cadaver collector to get back the corpse of a city hero. The ennemy is a Greater cadaver collector and my PCs are about level 10... The point is they don't have to kill the Cadaver Collector but only retrieve the corpse of the dead hero from the back of the monster... according they are able to do so, the cadaver collector's description stats that if one of its catch (alive or not) actually find a way to get out of his back, the cadaver collector will automatically give up everything it is doing to get it back, and probably until it falls apart...

so, i'm wondering how i play with it, even if the heroes find a way tog et back the corpse, how long will the cadaver collector try to get back his precious loot, and considering the ceature have no feats or abilities that will help it track the pcs how will you play with it.

I was thinking of putting in a way that the cadaver collector would first go abck to where he founds the corpse and make it rampage through the village ot get back his corpse. But after that, if the corpse is now buried, waht will he do? How long will he keep searching?

personally, what id do is get the parties spell caster to creat a small group of weak zombies. Then find out where the cadaver collector will be, and tell the zombies to "play dead so to speak". The CC will pick up the undead, and you command the undead to knock the hero's corpse off, then all jump off his back (repeat, add nausium). The undead who keep climbing off it's back will keep him distracted long enough for your party to cast mislead on the corpse and make off with the real one. Leaving one very confused construct.

LOL, sorry.

Anyone can use Survival to find tracks (regardless of the DC), or to follow tracks when the DC for the task is 10 or lower. So the CC will follow the PCs, until it is unable to. As soon as tracking becomes hopeless, the CC will move in an expanding search patern untill it finds the corpse (or at least someone who resembles the corpse, wether they're are alive or dead).
