If a dragon uses its breath weapon and the DM rolls 1d4 and it comes up as a "1", does it mean that the dragon can breathe again on the next round or that it has to wait for 1 round without breathing? Thanks for any help.

P.S.: Sorry if this comes up regularly, can't use the search right now...

If the roll is 1, the dragon can use the breath on very next round. This is clarified in the Draconomicon.

Thanks. That was my initial thought, but I got in doubt again after reading the feat "Recover Breath", in the same Draconomicon, which states:

"You wait 1 round less than usual before breathing again, but always at least 1 round." So... What do you guys think? Is it balanced for a dragon to be able to breathe in two consecutive rounds?

balanced? why not? ... if you roll a 1 for the wait time, you roll a one. Do the PC's have anything the dragon might want (treasure, magic items)? If so it might want to hold of on the breath weapon if it might destroy the goodies.

Yes, waiting 1 round simply means that the dragon breathes, waits until his turn comes back around one round later (which is the next round) and then breathes again.
