I am planning a one off game where the PCs try to retrieve the children of a remote village from a group of evil fey. The fey will be lead by a Nymph who has been corrupted by a helm of opposite alignment.

The only evil fey that come to mind are Red Caps and possibly Siren or Neriads. I was also thinking of using Meanlocks and saying that they were created by the Nymph torturing the children. However, the wish or miricle required to restore the children is problematic, I suppose I can have them restored via deus ex machina - maybe when the Nymph is slain?

My party should consist of three fifth level characters.

Ideas appreciated!

I browsed through the MM3 and found the following suggestions:

1. Glaistig pg. 60

2. Redcap and the Elder version, pg. 139

3. Splinterwaif and Splinterwaif Knaive, pg. 165

4. Wood Woad, pg. 196 (plant creature, but could easilly be adapted to a
sylvan setting)

5. The Woodling template, pg. 197

The above monsters should create a more than decent encounter for your party. If you wish to push their limit. I found these in the same book:

6. Shimmerling Swarm pg. 152

7. Ragewalker pg. 132 (recommended for higher levels)

Hope that helps!

Shadar-Kai from Fiend Folio: cruel and stealthy, linked to the plane of shadows.
Spriggans from Fiend Folio: nomadic gnome-like thieves that can enlarge themselves

If you don't mind homebrewed creatures, you could take a look at the entries from Master DM Competition 23 (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=6642179) - make a monster. There was a good percentage of fey among the entries.

You could even try mine, the swampie (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8643532&postcount=163), if you want.

Fantastic! Thanks very much guys! Those will do nicely. I think I moght replace the Nymph with a Glaistig though. I love the flavor of a cursed Nymph, but shes seems overwhelmingly powerful for her CR. Blinding Beauty and Stunning Glance are lethal, with damange reduction 10/cold iron and cast as a seventh level druid.... Yikes!

My players should be fairly optimized, but DC 17 fort saves when in 30' to avoid being permanently blinded?! DC 17 fort saves to avoid being stunned for 2d4 rounds?!

Hmmm, maybe I should bump my players up to 6th? It still seems like she would make a great BBEG. Although she does only have 27 hp.

There is also the Verdant Prince from MMIV. You could change the blame of the missing children on the parents at large because they made a deal with the prince and broke it in some small way and the price being the children. Kind of Little Monsters meets Rumpelstiltskin.

Also see my progressions, they're great for making any kind of monster you can imagine.

If you are going to do the "lure the children away" thing, I strongly reccomend the Grey Jester from Heroes of Horror.

There's even a short adventure hook featuring one doing just that.
