daman071 10-15-05, 05:36 PM	Now that I've finally scraped up enough money to buy a heavy warhorse for my paladin (to tide her over until 5th level), an obvious -- or perhaps ridiculously easy -- question occurs to me: Can a horse climb stairs? If so, is there a Ride check or movement penalty involved? Thanks!
InkBlot 10-15-05, 05:53 PM	Horses can walk up stairs just fine. The problem comes in getting them to go down stairs. They can't walk backwards down a flight of stairs, and most human-sized stairways are going to be too narrow for them to turn around in. Edit: I did a little googling and found out that horses don't like stairs at all. A well trained horse will go up a flight of stairs without complaint, but he won't like it. I think it would fall under the "follow you places it wouldn't normally go" clause of the heel or come trick. Warhorses come trained with both those tricks, so it would only be a DC 10 Handle Animal check to make them go upstairs. Walking backwards down a flight of stairs, however, would probably be a DC 25 handle animal check to "Push" it.
